Calcium intake & anatomy scan.

Hi Everyone,

It just occurred to me that I am probably not getting enough calcium. I think we are suppose to bring in abut 1,300 MG a day? Anyway, I am 18 weeks pregnant and trying to my very best to eat more calcium rich food & drink. Does anyone recommend a calcium vitamin?

Also on another unrelated note. I have my anatomy scan next Thursday (3/29) and I am scared to death. I only have a small bump and it is stressing me out.

any of the otc calcium supplements would be fine. If you are taking a prenatal then it will have some but not all of the calcium that you need. You should not take them together as your body can only absorb so much at a time. Try one in morning and the other at night. And do not take with antacids as it can block abosrption. or you can eat some tums. They are calcium and would boost your numbers.

I have a hard time getting enough calcium too! I also recommend Tums (around 400 mg of calcium for each tablet). Yogurt (300 mg) and a glass of milk (300 mg) will also provide good sources of calcium. Kraft cheese (processed) has around 200 mg of calcium per slice too.

PS--don't worry about having a small bump, I didn't really start showing till I was around 20 weeks. I'm still small but tummy keeps growing good luck on your scan! i loved seeing baby on 3D!

Thanks everyone! My husband wants me to take tums too. Is TUMS ok to take during pregnancy?

Yes, you can take Tums.
I take them though for heartburn, not for my calcium.
