What do Braxton Hicks feel like? When can they start?

I have a question for some of you veteran moms! I was walking in the store last night and I had this VERY sharp pain in my low abdomen..so much so that I had to stop walking! I worried for a second but then I just breathed thru it and went into the bathroom. It lasted for about 30 seconds and went away...I know it might be early to be having Braxton Hicks and I might just be being sensative! So...my question is...what do they feel like and when can they start? Thanks for the help!

That sounds more like round ligament pain to me. You can feel BH anytime (I first felt mine at 19 weeks.) It feels like your whole belly goes tight like someone is pulling your uterus really taught.x

Braxton hicks kind of feel like cramps but when you touch your belly its hard. They shouldn't hurt all though sometimes they can be uncomfortable. When I get them I usually just lay down on my side and chill for a bit. They usually happen after I have to pee really bad and I go.

You can get them from something like 8 weeks (don't quote me on that) but because your uterus is small you won't notice them. I have been feeling mine since about 12 weeks.

Remember to drink lots of water too because sometimes they can happen because you are dehydrated.

OK! Thanks ladies! I think that answers my question then Sounds like the usual pain...it was just so weird because it had never felt like that before...I haven't had any braxton hicks to speak of then I guess

It's normal not to "feel" them til even farther along then you are. This is number 2 so I kind of know what's going on with my body (most of the time haha).

They do feel pretty weird but next time you feel some cramping or something just feel your tummy and if it feels like a rock it could be a braxton hick.

All I can describe it as is your stomach contracts and tightens and it kinda takes your breath away for a second or so. It's a weird feeling, I remember the first one I ever had, I phoned my best friend panicking as I thought something was wrong. I wouldn't describe it as painful though and they are never painful when they become regular, so if you are worried get checked out.

I started getting them at 17 weeks with the twins, I haven't had any yet with this pregnancy. They tend to be ten times worse when you are dehydrated. I went on hols and didn't drink enough water on the plane and I must have got them every 5 -10 mins, I honestly thought I was starting in labor

You'll know the feeling when you get one, your stomach will just go totally solid for a few seconds and after deep breathing will go soft again xx

I will try that the next time I get that pain! I didn't even think to feel my belly when it was happening. I try to stay very hydrated so hopefully I won't have too many before the "real deal"!

If it was isolated to a certain part of your stomach and stopped you in your tracks I dont like it was BH. Round ligament pain feels like someone has ripped your stomach slightly to the point where it takes your breath away and you could easily make involuntary "ouch" noises out loud x
