I wish people would stop acting surprised when I say I've not had morning sickness

Sorry just a little rant coming here..

I've had absolutely no nausea or sickness at all and I am now 21 weeks, unless you count a morning of mild nausea at 9 weeks.

I keep being asked all the time if I have had sickness, or a lot of the time people just assume I have, and when I say I haven't they look all surprised, and a few even go quiet and look awkward as if no morning sickness means something is wrong - very unsettling .

Don't get me wrong, I am so happy I haven't had any and consider myself very lucky to not have had any, however I am not going to deny a tiny part of me is slightly concerned as there is a common myth that sickness is s sign of a healthy baby.

The worst one was yesterday, I was talking to an old workmate and I said I have been feeling rough (referring to persistent painful UTIs I've been getting), before I had a chance to finish she assumed I was meaning sickness and told me how sickness is a sign of a healthy baby and she can vouch for that as she had loads of sickness with her first child who was healthy but none with her second who is disabled. When I told her I've hd no sickness she looked all shocked and stuttered "oh, I am sure your baby will be fine".

From now on, I am not going to mention I've not had it and just going to go along with it when people assume I have as it's really starting to get on my nerves!

Rant over, thanks for listening

Thats the thing, its a complete myth and I were you I would tell them that and say that you consider yourself really lucky not to have had it!! People are so stupid sometimes and so gullible to believe stupid myths about things like this. No wonder you get irritated!! x

It is when you've had previous miscarriages, nausea can be a greattttttt sign. According to MY doctor that IS a sign of a good & healthy baby.

you are lucky to have not had any, I too would be surprised after knowing how horrible it feels to have morning sickness allllllllll day long.

I get strange reactions when I tell people I was never sick, too. But now I just tell them, my doctor told me that actually about half of women never have any so its pretty common!

Oh and I have had a m/c also and still never got sick with either pregnancy!

I get those same reactions as well when people find out that no I have not had morning sickness with this pregnancy and that yes I do feel wonderful and have no complaints. Personally after having had ms with my first pregnancy I am very happy not to have to experience it this time around. Too bad more people cannot make the disconnect between myth and reality.

Morning sickness isn't exactly a sign of a healthy baby, it's a cause (supposedly).
Some believe that a woman who has a more sensitive stomach isn't able to hold down anything that might be toxic or harm the baby.
Just don't eat anything toxic and you're in exactly the same place as someone who tosses their cookies every day.
I puked like there was no tomorrow (sometimes I wished I would just die already lol) and it didn't make me feel any better when people gave me that story that it must mean a healthy baby.

That's both rude and ignorant. Especially since you are in your second trimester and I think any correlation between MS and outcomes only applies to first trimester losses. The likelihood of MC is sufficiently small compared to the likelihood of MS that if you have no MS it's much more likely that you are just one of the lucky ones. And the fact that you got through first tri means you ARE just one of the lucky ones!

Plus, it just rubs me the wrong way whenever random people with no medical knowledge say anything implying that there is a problem with a pregnancy. It's so inconsiderate to force the burden of worrying about one more thing on a mother who is likely to have enough anxiety already.

I haven't had much sickness at all either. No one seems surprised, but they always tease me saying I'm lucky and they wish they didn't get so sick. Lol.
