Just hoping someone can help me with a question i have.
Last week I had a routine blood test ( not my first btw) and it was very painful afterwards. The nurse was quite rough really..
Anyway a week on my whole arm is bruised and even under by my elbow , the bruise is about the sixe of a large apple. It doesnt hurt to touch it but when I keep my arm straight after awhile it starts to tingle then hurt.. so much that it wakes me from sleep.
Anyone think I should be concerned? My mom told me to call doc but i dont want to waste his time either you know?
Im 20 weeks by the way.
I have always been scared of blood tests because previously I have always been left with massive bruises on my arm. The two I have had since being pregnant have been fine. I think it just needs a gentle hand to do it.
You'll be fine. It's quite normal to bruise a bit after having blood taken, especially if the nurse was a bit rough or unexperienced. Next time, you can try and just keep pressure on the spot after she's done for a little bit longer, it tends to help bruising quite a lot. I had blood taken just yesterday and she was great, no bruising at all...at my first appointment I did get a smallish bruise, but even big ones like you describe can happen.
So yeah, try and keep pressure on for a while after your next test, if your nurse doesn't do this anyway...a minute or so should be fine.
You won't need a doctor unless it starts hurting you lots or you have any other reasons to be concerned...the bruise alone isn't anything to worry about.
i bruise like a peach lol and told my mw so she took blood from one of my smaller veins (dunno why lol as i have some very large veins) and it bruised even worse than normal lol, i looked like a junkie if i wore short sleeves and got some weird looks lol !!
ive had lots of blood tests and all fine but one particular one, the nurse wasnt very good and iwas in agony the whole way through; i even almost passed out about 10 mins later which ive never done. The bruise was terrible, really big but all was fine and went away after a few days/week xx
