Pain Under Right Rib Cage

Ok, I have been trying to put off posting about this because I figured I could see my doctor and they would help me, but they literally just poked me said "oh does that hurt a lot" and took a CBC, which to me seems a little stupid? and left me with 0 explanation as to what could be the cause..."maybe you have an infection" this was Thursday I haven't heard from them since...

I am in gut wrenching pain almost everyday. Sometimes it is better than others. I originally thought it was my liver because that is where the pain is from all the tylenol maybe. I have had an inflamed liver before due to pain from dance and too many pain killers. I think i overdosed regularly without knowing it, but I was a teenager, and the area was NEVER this soar.

What really worries me, is when the pain hits I can't move. I could be in the middle of the street with a bus coming and I cannot physically move from the crooked bent over position without help. It's like being stabbed only its inside my ribs so I cant even rub it.

When I was examined, (im pretty pissed about this) I tried to explain the pain, and she kept insisting that it was feeling better now, and I'm like yes right now it hurts minimally but in an hour or so I wont be able to stand. "but it is better right"...no lady its not better...better would be NO pain. not medium pain. Last night I went to the opera I was in so much pain, I had to basically curl up in my seat and cry. I cried on the bus two days ago like a nut case because I couldn't lift my abdomen up. I have to crumble over to my right side and get my hip bone as close as possible to my right rib cage or I start to get dizzy and sick to my stomach from the pain. Then I cry, and my head hurts sometimes i even vomit I am in so much pain...its a mess and I feel like they just kind of dismissed me.

She told me to call my primary care doctor which I did, and she said "well at least you don't work, I had to work throughout my entire pregnancy"...really you're better than me because you just got back from maternity leave and worked the whole time? So stay home in pain and suffer because I am lucky?

I dont even know what they could do for this pain, but I was literally begging DH to punch me square in the face last night because I was crumpled up on a bench and couldnt make it the one more block home. I figured if he hit me hard enough it would make me mind focus on the other pain...of course he refused and kind of carried me the rest of the way, but jeez this can't be totally normal is it?!

My midwife gave me several symptoms to look out for for pre-eclampsia and pain in the liver area like you're describing is one of them - and a serious one at that. How is your blood pressure? Have you had any swelling? Have they found high protein in your urine? I would push for another opinion. If it's really so bad that you can't move, I'd go to the ER and not leave until I got some answers. I hope you feel better soon!

Actually I always have low b/p just genetically my whole family does. People are hospitalized at older ages for low b/p never high which is uncommon in Mediterranean blood but we have it.

I actually do the urine strip test myself at the dr and the protein one always comes up green aka trace amounts but I thought that was normal. They never mentioned it, so I didnt think about it. I wondered about it for about a second, but dismissed it being anything.

If at my next appointment I am not taken seriously I may just switch doctors. I can't stand being ignored. Honestly I am not stupid, and a complainer for no reason. DH in the office doesnt help. He speculates and monopolizes the conversation. I have had to elbow him multiple times when they leave the room because hes just a worry wart. I am just in pain and angry.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.. I just looked up the symptoms of pre-eclampsia so that i'd be prepared and pain under your right rib cage is one of the symptoms. Definitely demand to be taken seriously, cause pre-eclampsia can get really dangerous if left untreated. Good luck Hun!

Poor you, that sounds awful. Make sure you get checked for PE.

I had horrible rib pain when I was pregnant with my son. It was right underneath my ribs on the right side. The pain would be very sudden and not last long - it felt like a chinese burn. It would come and go at random times, sometimes switching on a light would cause a burst of it. It was very painful but, as I said, luckily it wasn't constant although I often had to rub it as it was quite uncomfortable. After talking to GPs and midwifes with no luck, I read about rib flare which sounded exactly like what it was so I put it down to that. Most of the midwives I mentioned it to had never heard of it. It eventually went away. You sound like you are suffering much more though and as others have said, you should get checked out for PE, but I wanted to just mention rib flare in case that shed a bit of light on it. I hope you feel better soon.
