So I announced my pregnancy to everyone in the office yesterday and everyone was really happy for me and supportive. So I went into the kitchen to stock up on some things (I work in an office as a receptionist) and one of the guys from finance comes in and congratulates me He is a lovely guy and I like him, but he really annoyed me with what he came out with! He is Muslim, and I respect every culture/religion out there, its fascinates me, but he proceeded to go on and tell me that I must not eat pork! Pork is a horrible animal and will make my babies skin lighter ( I am dark because my mothers side of the family is Spanish ) and he just proceeded to babble on about other rubbish that would happen if I ate pork. This slightly offended me because to me it felt like he was forcing his opinion on me (I happened to be eating a sausage roll at the time ) and to me it felt like he was pretty much saying that light skinned babies are ugly! I don’t care what skin color my child comes out with my baby could come out multicolored I wouldn’t care! Plus how can pork change the colour of someone skin tone? Ive been eating sausage for ages and im still dark coloured! What a joke!!
Loads of people will tell you the strangest things throughout pregnancy, some of them funny and some of them really unecessary lol! Eating pork is good for you and your baby, protein is important... and I'm sure you know that anyway lol! Over here pork is the cheapest meat and we use it in everything, it doesn't lighten babies skin.... what a strange thing to say lol! I've been lectured about all sorts of things whilst being pregnant, and sometimes I just pretend to take it on board so not to offend them and other times I just say I know all about the correct pregnancy diet and don't need their imput... I usually stop them in their tracks by telling them something they could never know unless they have done as much research as myself And like you said there is nothing wrong with a light skinned baby or any other colour either, all babies are beautiful.
LOL what a nut!! Maybe this is what he has been led to believe all his life lol so truly believes it. If he says anything again just say you asked your midwife and she said theres no scientific proof lol !!
That is the funniest thing I have heard in a very long time..People have the weirdest ideas....for the record, my husband is muslim, and while he doesn't eat pork, I do and he has nothing to say about it ad he is aware it is his belief not mine...he says his religion does believe the pig is dirty and thats why he wouldn't eat it, but the stuff tjis guy said about lighter skinned child is pure BS...its not something that they are taught and is in fact quite offensive to say that to someone...this person is more to be pitied than laughed at....
It's obviously not true and he's an arse for shoving his beliefs on you. I'd have told him that my culture dictates babies love bacon and I intend to wrap my baby in bacon to give it smooth skin. Or something.
