Shellfish allergy...

Hiya, i've just eaten some scampi which has made my lips swell slightly and made me feel/ be sick (only half sure about the sickness as it could have just been me feeling sick after eating which isn't too rare) it's only just occurred to me that my lips used to swell slightly/ feel sore and itchy after shellfish as a child - it's been a good 10 years since i've eaten any.... Anyway, i was just wondering if it would do any harm to bubs?
Thanks in advance xxx

ETA: Shellfish is fine to eat during pregnancy as long as its thoroughly cooked (which this was), I love google lol.

Oh really that's good to no, I've been wanting some scampi but thought I couldn't lol! Did you manage to find out if you could take anything for an allergy?

Ok so a mild skin allergy is no worries, and most mild reactions are safe. What you had was minor so your bubs should be fine. - According to google, lol

Food allergies can lead to anaphylaxis which can be dangerous as they can cause your throat to close and leave you deprived of oxygen. Which clearly isn't a good thing. I would suggest avoiding shellfish for the remainder of your pregnancy just to be safe, or at least talk to your doctor before eating it again and see what they suggest.

And my midwife also said it was safe while pregnant as long as it was cooked. She suggested moderation though not sure why but its not a big deal as I don't eat sea food daily.

Melissa you can take allergy meds but its best to ask your doctor before taking them. I know a few but everyone differs on what they feel is safe or not.

Not a problem. Food allergies can be a tricky thing sometime you can continue eating it and your body develops a tolerance for it and sometimes it can just get worse. My sister used to have a bad allergy to a blue food color but when she got older she lost it. I also have a friend who couldn't eat berries forever but had an allergy test done recently after she had a reaction to melon and learned her berry allergy was gone.

I love Scampi but two weeks ago I ate it (well cooked) and before I had even finished I was sick worse then ever, literally came up whole and was almost projectile the minute it touched my stomach, although I know I'm not allergic, maybe the tastes are too strong for pregnant woman or something along those lines, I'm usually a big fish eater and pre-pregnancy I ate Cockles, winkles, whelks, etc so have quite a "tolerant stomach"
