Middle ear infection and ruptured eardrum?!?!?

I was curious if anyone has every experienced a ruptured/perforated eardrum....I started getting an ear infection about a week ago and it turned into a full blown middle ear infection. I thought I was never going to make it through the pain and the pressure. Then, one night I took a shower and afterwards I suddenly had the sharpest, most intense pain I have ever experienced and it lasted a few hours. Now my ear swelling has gone down and the pain is almost non existent but now I can't really hear anything out of my right ear and there is a little blood!?!? I'm on antibiotics from when I first saw the doctor but at the time my eardrum wasn't ruptured...anyone had this??

Sorry, I haven't had this happen, I would go back and see your doctor again to get it get checked out, its better to be safe. I hope all goes well, take care

My son had this and that is exactly what happened when his eardrum ruptured. Odds are high that yours did. It's ok, it will grow back. You will get your hearing back in a few weeks. I would call your doc though and let them know that this is what you think happened, especially if you are using any eardrops, certain ones aren't for use if you have a rupture. It is nature's way of getting the infection out when it gets too bad. I hope you heal soon

I went to the docs for an ear infection yesterday and it burst in the waiting room! My god it hurt! It was leaking like watery wax. He gave me this spray stuff for it and antibiotics cos the infection had spread to my jaw. I would defo go get it sorted out asap!

A perforated ear drum is a fairly common occurrence with a build up of pressure in your middle ear cavity. It's a bit like a safety valve. I would go see your doctor incase the medication you're taking needs to be changed. Also avoid getting water in your ear, as this could cause terrible vertigo. Most ear drums do grow back and heal over, and your hearing will return when that happens. Most important thing though is to see your doctor and avoid getting water in it...

Ouches. I burst my eardrum once, it wasn't fun. What the others said, go to the doc.

I'm supposed to wear ear plugs when swimming and I went to Florida for my honeymoon and spent an entire day in the water without them and then flew the 9 hours back. I haven't had time to get to the docs but my ear is not fun, whoops!
