Autism may possibly be linked to mom's pregnancy?

Please note, I did say possibly. It is scary...

This of course as we all know is an expansive issue, but just to chime in, my MIL was (and still is) the picture of health, slim, perfect blood pressure, no labour complications and my OH has Asperger's syndrome.

I'd also like to just reiterate that I'm talking about my OH...who has led a full life (albeit with some challenges) is married and about to become a father!

I totally understand your concerns ladies, believe me I have worried about it too as there is the unconfirmed hereditary aspect for me to think about, but I do really believe asides from being healthy for you and baby in any case you can't know that your LO will be on the Autistic spectrum or not.

I totally agree with you. I don't think they will ever find a direct link. It's like they...oh idk lol

I remember a while back they were linking it to immunization shots and that some babies develop it as an allergic reaction to a particular immunization shot.

I was worried too when I read that as I am overweight and having blood pressure issues. Everyone I've ever known with an autistic child is in good health and a normal body weight which calmed me down. I still say who knows what causes it.

I often sit around and wonder WHY people are so obese, and the quality of the food. They also automatically link diabetes and obesity, when I know plenty of young women who developed diabetes as teenagers and were thin (dancers, and physically fit). I question a lot of the studies on obesity, because they rarely ever focus on food and food additives as a link to obesity. Maybe it isnt the obesity but something that is in the food some chemical that "obese" people tend to eat more. Are these links also shown in normal weight woman with high BP? or normal weight females with diabetes (my aunt is beyond thin and has had diabetes since she was in her early teens)?

The article leaves a lot of unanswered questions, but the reoccurring theme of the article is that they say constantly it could affect, of may be the problem, yet nothing definitive. I am not going to worry about something that isnt definitive.

Typically when the young develop diabetes it is Type I Diabetes. This is an immune response that effect the pancreas leading to decreased insulin production. Type II Diabetes is developed as you age and/or are overweight (it also has a hereditary component). This is a type of insulin resistance. You make insulin, but your body becomes resistant to it. Meaning it cannot be utilized as well.

High blood pressure can be diet/age related or hereditary. So people who are young/fit have high blood pressure and it is usually hereditary. This is the dangerous kind because most don’t know they have it.
