i had threatened preterm labour with LO at 26 weeks and had the two steroid injections. Thankfully i didnt need them in the end but was so thankful at the time to have been given them. To me it was like a ray of hope when we was offered them good luck x

Hi

I was given steroid shots at 28 weeks as one of my twins was dropping in weight due to him having restricted blood flow through his placenta cord. I managed to keep them in until 34 weeks when the decision was made to get the twins out for the sake of my little boy.

He was born weighing 3lb 8oz my daughter 5lb 1/2oz. He needed a blast of oxygen when he was born but other than that was taken to SCBU and didn't need any help with his breathing at all. I totally believe these steroid shots saved both my babies lives as I've heard of babies who have been very poorly born at the same weight as my son and all he had was a little bit of jaundice.

All the best for a healthy and happy pregnancy xx

I am taking note of this, as I have had pre-term labour before and I seem to hear nothing but positives of having the shots....Does anyone know of negatives if any??

I had threatened preterm labour and around 28 weeks they were contemplating giving me the steroid shots. But baby held on and around 32 weeks everything calmed down so much. Unfortunately, at 37 weeks, she almost died inside me, and had to be taken out quickly. So we never had the shots, and she ended up in NICU for 9 days due to underdeveloped lungs. She did worse than the 29-weeker baby lying next to her who had the shots!

The only negative I've heard about the shots is possible kidney problems in the mom, and a friend of mine had a severe allergic reaction to the shot and they couldn't give her another one.

My eldest was born at 30 weeks was absolutl tiny but was on bed rest from 25 weeks and in hospital from 27 weeks as the contractions kept coming back and were productive. All he needed was a tanning lamp for a couple of days and a nose tube for feeding NO incubator, NO extra help DO IT! I have been given the jab with each of my subsiquent children as a precaution and though they have both gone to term its had no ill effect on them. THough I swear my daughter got a lot more active a few days after might have been a coincidence. you have nothing to loose and everything to gain!

DO IT! We only managed one shot but it's generally 2. Alex took a while to come off any breathing assistance but the shot would no doubt have helped her.
It helps mature their lungs, which will help prevent a lot of things including lack of oxygen to the brain.
