I always slept on my tummy pre pregnancy and I find it hard to get comfy on my side and impossible on my back!

What I find helps (as I can't lie on my stomach as bump's too big) is lying on my side, angled towards my stomach but with a very soft pillow supporting my bump and then I rest my upper knee on the pillow too. If I don't have the pillow supporting my bump, I can feel it 'hanging' and it's really uncomfy!

I've also heard that sleeping on your left side is best, again because of something that cutting off blood supply and getting dizzy or something along those lines. Luckily, I find sleeping on my left most comfy and can never get to sleep lying on my right side!

I figured if I wasn't supposed to sleep like this, I would feel uncomfortable which i don't
This is exactly how I sleep, too. Sometimes when I move from side to side, I feel her repositioning inside me, and I get a little worried I'm squishing her. But, most of the time I don't worry too much. I'm guessing the bigger my bump gets, the less able I will be to angle down.

The reason they say no to your back is because the baby and fluid rest on a huge nerve down your back which can cause discomfort to you, dizziness and possibly pass out.
Haha I'm so sorry but everytime I see your avatar I can't help but laugh and it's hard to take you seriously! I LOVE that episode of South Park! P.S I didn't mean this in a bitchy way at all

I always end up waking up on my back too... for me sleeping on my back is far more comfortable and I tend to rest on my tummy throughout the day.... I'm 17 weeks at the moment and now petrified about the whole nerve thing lol...

Completely OT.... Is there anyone here who experiences pain in the lower abs muscles when they sneeze or cough?

Close. It's a huge vein called the inferior vena cava. It returns blood to your heart. If you compress it, blood cannot return and you get breathless and in worst cases heart failure.

Heaps. I managed to pull a round ligament in my first tri (about 8 weeks) and sadly it hasn't been the same and hurts all the time now

I used to feel a shooting pain when I used to sneeze about 2 months ago, luckily that's stopped now

I always start out on my left side deliberately but wake up several times a night lying on my back.
Because of my pillow arrangement (in between my legs) i'm not flat on my back, still more titled to the left slightly.

The times that I have slept flat on my back (no pillows) i've been woken up with a tingling dead right arm and hand.
I'm attributing this to compression of that big vein. Sound plausible?

I used to stress myself out about waking up on my back but my midwife told me pretty much not to worry about it- you'll definitely wake up before you do harm.

I did however read some horrible study on google a few weeks ago about the risk of stillbirth depending on how you slept the night before your labour Yuck. Why do I read these things?

Joy x
