18 Weeks and Gender Discussions

My girlfriend reached 18 weeks the other day. She's certainly getting there now! Almost half way. She says she can feel the baby moving around and kicking slightly. She has the second scan on the 24th of this month.

Alot of my friends are telling me NOT to ask about the sex because it'd be better as a surprise, but I am an anxious person and waiting until the 24th is already driving me mad! I just wanna know!!

What do you guys think about my ridiculous obsession for needing to know the sex? I don't think I have a preference, but part of my mind is just nagging at me to know.

I would post a bump picture but I don't have 10 posts yet and it won't let me attach links, though you can see pictures on my blog in my Signature.

Thanks. ^_^

Awww bless you hun. I think there are benefits to both, if you know, you can prepare. If not, it's the best surprise ever x

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm excited for the next scan, but I think it's because we're going to ask.
What's the chances they wont be able to tell?
She'll be 20 weeks by the scan date.

That's really sweet!
My husband & I just found out today, and suddenly it's not just a baby anymore, it's a person so I'd say there is more to it than just the organising side (though that's handy too!)

first baby I HAD to know, but really wished we waited! Next baby we 100% decided not to find out. I think it will be a very special moment when daddy announces to me the sex of our new baby

I think the chances are really good to be able to see the sex at 20 weeks! Good Luck!

I think that's sweet! I feel exactly the same way as you...we found out it's probably a boy because I begged the tech to give us a guess at 13 weeks I didn't have a preference for one or the other but it was very special to be able to use a pronoun other than "it" and start imagining the baby as a real person, as sylvia said. Looking forward to confirmation in 2 weeks!

Just make sure you are on the same page as your girlfriend and agree about whether to find out or not

We've both definitely decided to find out. We certainly need something other than it to call the baby. We've both said however that we won't decide on a name until the babies born, we'll have some general ideas beforehand and look at the baby first.
We don't wanna be one of those couples that start printing its name on everything before it's born only to find out the name just doesn't fit.
It's looking like Amelia or Alice for a girl though. :P
But if it's a boy we have NO IDEA so we'll need all the time we can to prepare a name!
