That's unbelievable. I'd ask your midwife to put it in writing that as you're pregnant you need to have adequate hydration and give it to them if you get any hassle for having a bottle close at hand. Its awful that you have to do that but to be honest I'd rather give them what they've asked for and know that the matter is dealt with. Idiots.

I used to work at sainsburys, they were funny about it too! The kind of place that gave me a written warning for being in hospital with glandular fever! And I was only 16 just take it to the till n if they make you get rid of it, buzz them every hour and ask for a comfort break! N if they moan, ask to speak to your manager!

i work for Waitrose as a checkout assistant too and they let me have water at the till? you have to talk to the manager and your section manager as you are entitled to it. you need it for you and your baby to keep hydrated.

just take water down with you and if they say you're not allowed it, have it out! i know i would.

they should have carried out a risk assessment too which should say that if you need to, you're allowed to have water.

Thats outrageous. Id tell them that you cant get a doctors letter straight away and if they are not prepared to allow you to have water meantime then you want them to put that in writing to you and you are making them aware that if dehydration causes you any pregnancy issues then you will be taking them to the cleaners!!! Thatll sort the assholes out!!!

I think it's outrageous, but I'd just ring the doctor and ask for a note if they are going to be difficult.

I'm a practice nurse and I would happily give one of my patients a note in these circumstances.

We are not allowed drinks on the till unless its in a sports cap so if it fell over it wouldn't cause any damage. I've had no problems with having a drink when i am on the till, I'm not on them as long as you. I'd have a word with them and just explain again. Then if they get awkward call midwife/dr and get a note x

They're being assholes for the sake of it >

I say keep it there anyway. What's the worst they can do? Failing that, tell your doctor about the headaches and feeling dehydrated. Tell them your work is being unreasonable and selfish. Your Dr should write a note for you (hopefully a rather strongly worded one) telling them that you ARE to have your water with you.

FFS, What's wrong with people?!

xx

I know right, I've never been denied a drink of water or a drink of anything (non alcoholic ofcourse) in any of my previous jobs, one of which was working at a desk with a computer and printer on it where there's more risk of knocking it over and damaging equipment IMO at least. I've had four including this one. It's pathetic

Seriously cannot wait till July when I can go on maternity leave and not come back, people keep trying to convince me to stay on longer, but I really hate it there and they treat their staff like robots. I don't want to have to stay there any longer than I have to. If i wasn't pregnant i would have left by now tbh. All I want is a bottle of water ffs. I think my manager is off for the week now so I'm going to talk to someone a bit higher up, failing that then I'll get my midwife to write a strongly worded letter at my next appointment. All this over a bit of water
