They won't let me have a bottle of water.

Yeah so work won't let me have a bottle of water with me at my till, they know i'm pregnant so need to be drinking more fluids but they say you need a doctors note to have a drink at your till.. I mean wtf isn't water a basic human need?

I keep getting headaches at work because i'm not able to drink anything for 6/7 odd hours occasionally more than that, I know it's not that long, but at home I always have a glass of juice or water or something. I'm so sick of coming home with a headache every day

When I told my manager I was pregnant she said if I needed a bottle of water at my till that was fine, so what's changed? Is there anything I can do? I could understand if I was working somewhere where there was a risk with having water around the equipment but I work on a till in a supermarket ffs, I've seen other people have water and squash at their till, I don't know whether they have drs notes but I really can't see what the harm is, surely it would be more beneficial than anything, helping with concentration and stuff.

Sorry for the moan, just wish I didn't have to put up with headaches five days out of the week. Is there anything I can say/do apart from going to the drs?

Thats a joke! Kids are allowed water on their desks at school nowadays so why cant you have some at work! Just take a bottle with you to the till! If they say anything then tell them its either that or you leave the till every hour!!

That's ridiculous!! Have they given you a risk assessment yet? You should have had one by now. It needs to go on there. Having to get a Dr note for water?? Would love to see your Dr's face when you ask for that!! And 6-7 hours is unreasonable for anyone to go without a drink let alone a pregnant woman.

I would just take it to your till with you and if they say anything just keep going for water breaks, they will soon let you have a bottle at your till.... assholes! x

That's effing ridiculous! I passed out at work once because I wasn't drinking enough water! You should be allowed to drink your water!

Thanks ladies I wasn't sure if I was being over the top or not. I've had one risk assessment when I was about 6/7 weeks, apparently I'm supposed to have them every month? I know the drs note thing is a complete joke, I might speak to the girls in the office next week about it and explain about the headaches I'm getting and stuff, they tend to listen and take action more whereas the runners on the checkouts just don't listen. I do drink water on my break but there's just not enough time and by that point I usually already have a headache. It sucks.

Honestly I'm getting so fed up with this place, i'm going on mat leave as soon as I can.

If they want a doctor's note, then give them one. It is the height of stupidity, but then they would have no reason to bother you about it. It beats just bringing water anyway and possibly putting your job at risk. (Again - the very height of stupidity. This behavior on their part almost has to be illegal. Maybe you should ask someone.)

They have got to be joking...!? I understand how most of us rely on our paychecks, but when it comes to something like this, I'd tell them where to stick it and how to stick it. Next thing you know, you're not allowed to go to the toilet either...
Just ignore this silly 'rule' and have your water when you need it, Hun. Idiots!!
