Electric vs. Microwave Sterilizer?

Sterilizers are on sale at Babies R' Us right now Just wondering if experienced mommies here have any preference for either electric or microwave sterilizers? I'm a little embarassed because I didn't even really know about them.. I remember my Mom always just boiling water to sterilize my younger sister's bottles and stuff!

Also, I'm looking at sterilizers from Avent, Munchkin, Tommee Tippee, and The First Years; any suggestions?

Thanks!

i did the same as your mother with my DD (4years ago) but now i was given some neat packages you can use up to 20 times before switching a new one that is used in microwave. Its only for the nipples of bottles and pacies of course but hey it was easy to just add little water, throw the nipples and out they came clean!

hope that helps

I always used microwave sterilisers, but when i got a new microwave it was too small to fit the steriliser inside it, so i went for an electric one.
It's not really any advice on which is better, just to let you know that if you choose a microwave steriliser to check the dimensions and make sure it will fit

I had an electric tommee tippee the first time, this time I have a microwave one. I didn't find much different between them apart from I could cram more in the micro one lol! xxx

I'm not exactly experienced... But I got the Avent electric because it was cheap second hand . I tried it out already and it takes about 10 minutes, holds 6 bottles and nipples etc, or a breast pump and a couple of bottles. So I'm happy with it!

The only disadvantage I can think of is if you are in a hard water area (which we are) it will need descaling quite often because of the metal heating element in the bottom. It's not really a big deal to descale, you just have to pour some vinegar in. But I'm guessing with a microwave one you wouldn't even need to do that as there's no heating element.

I have a tommee tippee electric sterilizer... I had a microwave one before, that melted in the microwave and wrecked my bottles... I phoned the manufacturer and they blamed my microwave

We have a mam microwave sterilizer.
