Going into labor before scheduled c-section?

What happens if you go into labor and you have a scheduled c-section? Are you allowed to try for VBAC, or do they give you a c-section?

I'm going to ask at my next appointment next week but I was curious what has happened to other ladies. I had my son at exactly 38 weeks but my c-section won't be till 39 weeks with this one!

I'm worried about this myself as I dont want vbac. I'm not booked in yet, so I'll ask when I get my date (next Monday - its taken forever). From what I've read on this and other sites it seems hospital specific. Some say push it out, others pull you in and do a semi emcs.

If the c-section is for a medical reason they will invariably do it when you come in in labour. If it is just choice due to a previous c-section and you come in already 9cm and it is all looking good then they may encourage a VBAC. Generally, they will give you a section then and there if you come in in established labour but are booked for a section.

It depends on your hospital. I originally inquired about a vbac at our first appt, but the hospital doesn't do them. There is more risk of uterine rupture, and to protect themselves from being sued, they just do planned C if you had a previous. It took a bit to get used to having to have another one. the healing part i'm not crazy about, who wouldn't want to be in and out in 24 hrs!

Like you, i'm still concerned about early labor even with a planned C. My son was born 4 days early.EMCS due to cord around his neck and him being over 9lbs, and not being able to fit through my pelvis. Now at my hosp, i have a 3 dc practice i guess you could call it. I was rotated through them last pg, as not knowing when i would have baby, I would be familiar with whoever was available to be in the hospital for delivery. well this time needing a planned C, I've been just seeing the one so far. Til my last checkup.

Last time I had the midwife. She original told me my C would be planned at about 30 wks. Then started planning it. She was discussing my due date, and told me it was 3 days later than my scan. I was confused, so I asked why. She said it's based on my lmp. Said my scan wasn't accurate as the due date. The date was discussed with my dc already and he was on board with our decision. Oct 26. a week before my nov 2 scan. We told him it'd work perfectly for dh to be with me in the hospital, and have the week off to be with me at home to recover. Her changing my due date to Nov 5, even throwing things off 3 days, she wanted to schedule our C for Nov 2 then. Um...my original due date!!!! Of course i'm worried about going into labor before my due date...i was early with my last!!!

I'm not happy about my planned date...she did stop my dc in the hall on the way out, told him everything we discussed, and he was STILL fine with our date we wanted, even asked why Nov 5 was circled on my chart.SHE just did it! Well, it's still not settled yet,the dc said if it's set too early, the state may "red flag" it. dh wasn't there with me, so of course i talked about it with him. He will back me on our original plan.We only want to deal with our dc, not her for the rest of the preg. The dc seems willing to allow this red flag, because this situation is just so stupid!

I ended up going to the dc office to pick up a proof of pregnancy paper for insurance renewal, and would ya know...in the damn computer system, it says my due date is now Nov 8!!! oh, i'm just so pissed at her and her bull!!!! Why would she want us to go in labor before my due date, knowing i'm at a higher risk or uterine problems...and because i live further away too!!!!

I suppose if I did happen to go in labor at like 38wks or sooner, there is a hospital 15 minutes away..although they don't have a maternity ward. I still believe there would be time for the inlaws to come over to watch our 3 yr old, then we could go to our reg hospital. we'll take it one day at a time!

Depends on what you want, if you want to try for VBAC then you can, but if it's a medical reason like a breech baby then you will be sectioned right away. I was due a section because my baby was breech and was told if I went into labour I had to go to hospital right away for a section. Now my baby has turned head down I've been advised to wait and try for a vbac.

This is my first section but they have said if I go naturally before obviously to get to hosp ASAP but that if it's happening fast like my last birth then there probably just wouldn't be time and they have me go natural x

I scared I won't reach 39+2 even though both previous were past then x

My midwife answered this question with "we'll review the situation and cross that bridge when we come to it", which isn't especially helpful. But I guess it depends on your reasons for an elective and how far along you are. I really want to go for a VBAC but my midwife and consultant team are not supporting me and they feel are advising elective section for me (even though my hospital and that team are pro-VBAC in general). I haven't yet agreed to it. I would be really interested to know what would happen to me in this situation.

Im booked for a c section on 17th Sept at 39 weeks, due to poor healing last time plus baby has kidney problems. Was told if go into labour come in straight away for section. I only live 15 mins max from hospital so should be ok

Depends on what you want- my friend went into labour before her elective c section and was still able to have it.

I would imagine if you have a planned C-section and you go into labor prior to it you'd simply have an Emergency C-section then.
