peeking over... question on sciatic nerve...

Hey girls,
I'm just peeking over from 1st tri with a question for you, figured you girls would have the best answer as you would have experienced it the longest.
I was just wondering if any of you have had any problems with your sciatic nerve in early pregnancy. How long did you have problems with it? How long were you out of work? What helped ease the pain?

I haven't since I've been pregnant knock on wood. I did last year though. I was in major major pain all the time, from my butt cheek down to my ankle. I didn't however miss any work. One day actually. The only thing that eased my pain was physical therapy. One of the exercises that helped was lying flat on my back and pulling the affected leg to my chest. And then also pulling it to my chest and across my chest. Also standing up with your hands on your hips and just bending back at your waist. I'm sure you can google more exercises.

I had this during my pregnancy and still now. Best thing I did was go to a Bowen Therapist, she fixed it. Now i'm just suffering from something else. Sigh

I'm worried because I am having problems so early on and am out of work for it already. I'm hoping that it will clear up and ease off so I can still work before I have to go out on maternity leave.

How early are you? I wouldn't think in the first tri that your uterus would even be big enough to be putting pressure on your nerve. Maybe it's actually unrelated. Maybe it is. Who knows. Like I said I had issues last year before I got pregnant. They never really DID find a reason but even though it took 4 months, physical therapy really helped.

I had sciatica when I was pregnant with Thomas and I still get pain every now and then

I only started getting sciatica at about 29weeks and I was given coedine and codydramol to help that and my SPD but not sure about early pregnancy hun. Maybe you should go to your doctor and see what they say xxx

Thanks girls, I'm just hoping that I don't end up out for very long with it. Especially since i'm still very early on and quite frankly need the money at the moment. I only know one lady who has had issues with this and she ended up being put out of work until the baby was born, everyone is different though. Hoping for the best.

I have a slipped disc and have suffered with sciatic pain for the whole pregnancy. As soon as baby is born I am off to have a quaterzone injection into back as everything else has failed for me!
I feel for you - it is an awful pain that doesn't seem to ever let up. I use hot wheetie bags to try and sooth my back and I try to go swimming once a week although my back is so bad now that I can't even manage that!
Good luck and I hope you get better soon!

I had sciatic pain towards the beginning of the second tri but it’s gone away since then. It only lasted a few weeks but was quite distracting and very painful at times. A friend had it with both of her pregnancies in the first then it went away for the 2nd and came back during the last couple of months.

Good luck and I hope you’re feeling better soon hun!
