Herpes - big fat cold sore!

So I've woken up this morning to the joys of a cold sore on my top lip. For me, they always come up over night and only when I'm stressed or run down.

I've always gotten them so its not an issue for me but what about LO? What's the chances of her now being a carrier of the virus? Does anyone have any experience of this - I will be gutted if she gets the virus from me because I know how 'not nice' they are!

Hiya, cold sores are transmitted by touching/kissing/sharing utensils/towels etc - particularly at the blister stage. Since your little one is all safely tucked up at the mo they will be just fine.

Once she is born you'll have to be careful not to kiss her & practice good hand hygeine if you do have a breakout but rest assured - she won't be a carrier just because you get them yourself :-)

Xx

my DD doesn't get them but I don't remember a breakout when pg with her.. Fingers crossed that LO will be fine then. I know they are not painful but are more uncomfortable and don't look nice x

Ive just got over a cold sore. They are nasty to get so i can understand. Getting cold sores while pregnant is not such a bad thing causr it mean your baby will be protected against the virus for a good number of months (cant remember how long)aftrer they are born.

she'll only get them if you kiss her with the blister stage.

I hate coldsores. I used to get them all the time and have has one this pregnancy aswel.

Baby will be fine. I think it's only dangerous if you get your first one while your pregnant. I was always so worried about LO catching one from me. I still am even though I don't have one!

I do think its hereditary, as my mum and her sisters all get then really bad and I somehow managed to get the same virus - my two sisters and brother didn't get it (damn them!) lol - I'm hoping my LO takes after its Daddy and doesn't have the virus!

I'm same as you though, when I am run down I always get one. Used to be how I could tell I was going to be unwell! None in pregnancy tho! (Thank god!) xx

Hmm if passing antibodies on is true then I've had 7 (yes really!) since finding out I was pregnant, so hopefully this will help LO!
