Baby due next week and wondering about xmas and induction!?
Hey ladies, I have a week left until my due date and seeing the midwife at 40+1. Now I know something (fingers crossed!) could happen before then but with my first I went 10 days overdue and I was induced. If this was the case again, it would be right on top of Christmas. Do you think if nothing happens naturally I could ask for it to be done a few days earlier in the week before? I don't really want to go much further than 10-11 days, especially being an older mummy and the possible risks that can bring. Unfortunately my last midwife left the practice and the new one has been useless throughout my whole pregnancy which is causing me worry as to whether she'll be giving me the best advice and choices!
I'm just one day ahead of you, so I know how you feel. My doctor says technically she'll make me wait two weeks until she induces me, which would be 12-26!! I don't see the harm in asking to be induced a few days early, and I'm sure your doctor would rather be delivering a few days before Christmas then on it. I'm actually going to ask if I can be induced on the 20th (if I make it that far of course). I don't think I could handle still being pregnant over Christmas when I've already bought baby a first Christmas hat, outfit and picture frame
The trust around here says induction is 12 days after due date which takes me to xmas eve, I dont want to start induction and risk missing my toddlers xmas, so I will either want it on the 22nd or on the 26th.
My induction would be 19th so earlier than you and what I mentioned to consultant I would rather it be a bit sooner because I have my other children to think of at Xmas, she just said "yes you and the rest of Bradford" so I doubt would get it any earlier, for me anyway xx
If you have a medical reason to be induced, then definitely do it. But considering the risks involved for both you and baby of being induced, I wouldn't want to do it just to avoid giving birth on a holiday. If I was healthy and everything was going well, I'd want to wait it out so as not to take the chance of the things that could go wrong, but that's just me. Only you know what feels right to you, so trust your gut.
I would be induced on boxing day so hope it doesn't come to that! I have sweeps booked two days before that, four days before and six days before in the hope that it doesn't come to being induced. It's crazy that I might have be off to the birth centre on Christmas Eve for a sweep!! With all the tightenings I'm getting I really hope it's a sign that we won't have to wait that long (I could be verrryyy naive )
Thanks for all your replies ladies, glad it's not just me wondering about this situation. It might not even come to it but if it all happened over xmas it wouldn't really be a problem, what will be will be. It's just I was induced with my first and it did work really well for me so if I was heading down that route again I'd just rather it was a few days sooner. Midwife hasn't mentioned sweeps yet and I had two in my last pregnancy that didn't work but there is still that option if nothing happens before then! Come on baby!!!!!! Lol!! Hope all our babies behave and don't leave us waiting too long x x
