Growth scan at 39 weeks?

So at my appointment today my belly was measuring ahead (like usual) and my doctor decided to send me for one last ultrasound to check on the size of my baby. My first DS weighed 9lbs 5ozs when he was born so I know I'm in for another large baby. He told me there is nothing to worry about but now I'm freaking out that I'm going to have a 10-11 pounder! Anyone else had to have a growth scan this late in pregnancy?

I will. I have one Friday and another at 39 if I go that far. I had a 9lb 2.5 bub at 36w with my first. This one may/may not be that big due to fluid restriction early on in pregnancy so Friday I'll get more of an idea of his weight. I'd be terrified if he comes out 10 lbs. Less for me to lose but something I'm not wanting my birth canal to endure. Were you given an estimate of weight?

My consultant has booked me in for a growth scan at 39 weeks.
I went for an ultrasound a few weeks ago and the dr told me baby was measuring ahead and that they are changing my due date 2 weeks earlier. But the other dr said, no, they were keeping my original due date. So now I'm not really too sure when my edd actually is. But My first son was 9lb 1oz and ended up having an emcs. So they want to see if this baby is going to be big Aswell cause I hoping for a vbac.

Did you have a natural birth with your first? Maybe they want to check the placenta as well, if it's still working? since you are measuring ahead, they want to make sure everything is working good and that baby is doing well?

Well it's funny because I gained 40 pounds with my first son and this time I've gained 20 and I feel like I've looked smaller comparing them to my first pregnancy. The last weight estimate I was given after a scan at 32 weeks to check on my placenta position (which is no longer previa) and she said he was roughly 6 pounds. Last week at my appointment my doctor estimated 8-9 pounds and now this week he's sending me for a scan.

I did have a natural birth with my first and didnt even require stitches. Big babies have always run in my family. They checked my placenta at my 32 week scan because it was really low lying but it has moved up and out the way. He pretty much measured me and then said maybe we'll do one last scan to see what size of baby were looking at Maybe just as a precaution? He did say he delivered a 11.3 pound baby last week vaginally. So it's obviously doable! And I doubt my baby is that big, I'm guessing he'll be similar size to my first. I guess it's just concerning when they want you to have a scan so close to your due date.

Well I wouldn't worry I'm sure he just booked it to see what baby's weight might average. That's pretty much the only reason I'm booked for a scan at 39 weeks, is to just monitor baby weight, and my dr said if I go overdue than I'll get probably 2 more

At least your placenta is better positioned. I think he'llbe a similar size but not much bigger.

That's what I'm hoping for! I guess my biggest concern is I don't want to have a c-section due to a large baby. But obviously I will do what needs to be done. And hey, at least I get to see his sweet little face one more time before we actually meet him Thanks for your help girls!

I had one done at 39w with DS and they said he was about 7lb12oz, he was born two days later weighing 6lb2oz. They can be pretty inaccurate....
