Anyone have positive 'Sweep' stories?

Hi

I'm 39+2 today (although according to original due date I am due today!) Anyway, at my appointment today my consultant give me a sweep. She said my cervix was forward and soft and she was able to do the sweep but I was still quite long. I was just wondering if anyone else has experiences with sweeps before or around due date and them actually working?

Thanks x

Did any of you do anything in particular after the sweep that you think helped? I'm in bed now but so far I've bounced on my ball and DTD. Tomorrow I have my aqua-natal class so that might help too x

I had two done, one at 37 weeks and one at 38. I was already at 2 cm and 70% at at 37 weeks. The first one gave me moderate contractions but no change, the second gave me such bad contractions we went to labor & delivery but it was a false alarm. The contractions I had that time were as bad as my labor contractions when I was at 5 cm! They had to send me home on painkillers and Ambien! I had LO 10 days early (my water broke), but I don't think the sweeps helped at all :-/.

My sister and friend both had sweeps (although probably one of the most painful parts of the labor process for my sister) and they went into labor the next night

I had my sweep in the morning, went for a walk in the afternoon, then had a glass of wine, a spicy Chinese and we DTD.

Labour started 7pm the next evening
