black spots in vision

Hi there,

I had these black big round spots suddenly appear in my vision last night which lasted just under 10 minutes. There were loads of them and it really freaked me out as I hate any type of 'hallucination' or seeing things that aren't there. I felt fine in myself, and sat down and drank some water and eventually they just went. It was in the evening.

Any idea on what this was?

I used to get these with migraines, but they can be a sign of high blood pressure, they can also occur if you stand up quickly.. I would mention it to your MW just to be sure!

I agree with Jem it could be your BP.

I've started getting like 'spotting' in my eyes and seeing pieces of glass (lol). My midwife seen me last Friday when my BP was up, but also noticed swelling of my legs and ankles. Then she sent a midwife to see me on Saturday, BP was normal but had protein in my urine

If you have any of the above things, and headaches or the swelling increases quickly, advise your midwife

Thanks for the replies. I feel ok in myself now, nothing out of the ordinary, neither was I doing anything out of the ordinary last night. I got them infact whilst I was lying down. I suffer from migraines and they went from a couple a year to about weekly during my first tri/early second tri, however have not had any since. I never got the black spots as part of my symptoms, and I def didn't have a migraine or headache last night. But I have a antenatal check up booked with my doc tomorrow anyway so guess I can ask him. I do feel quite unsteady on my feet lately but I presume thats normal!

I'd get it checked, hon to rule out pre-eclampsia. You may also have been dehydrated? Hope all is well

I hate calling too, i always feel like i'm bothering them over nothing lol. The only reason i mentioned the pre-eclampsia thing is because my midwife tested me when i reported seeing black spots. I didn't have any other symtoms though, she was just being overly cautious. I should be thankful that she waS being dilligent

well I called the midwife but she kinda didn't know what it was other than poss pre-eclampsia like you said as she said if my ankles/hands swell up yada yada. She had no other explanation. Anyway, i'm going to go docs at late morning to see if I can get an appointment just to get blood pressure taken. Sure it's fine though as I feel fine ie. no other symptoms. Just curious to what it was really!
Thanks:-)
