when does doc start checking cervix?

And does it really mean anything if you're dilated? I have my 34 week apt today. I'm looking forward to finding out what I'm measuring as they said 35 at my 32 week apt.

Depends on where you are, your doctor and what you have going on. I think the norm (no complications, etc.) in the US is to start checking at 36 weeks. At least that was for me, several friends and my sister (who all went to different clinics in different states). As for what you are measuring, that can change a little. I was measuring ahead and now I'm right where I should be. My dr told me yesterday that was normal.

In the UK its very unusual to have your cervix checked at all when pregnant, they usuallu just do it when you are in labour or if there is a medical reason. Xx

I'm in germany and they started checking me at 37 weeks. I found it to be more of a hassle than anything. It doesn't really tell you anything. Some people dilate to a 3 and still need an induction...others stay closed all the way to 40 weeks and go on their own. it kind of sucks to get excited about 1 or 2 cm of dilation and still carry over your due date

Yes no cervix checks in the UK. There really is no point in them as they don't give any indication of labour & just seem like a massive invasion of privacy!

With me in Canada im being checked on the 26th when im 39+5. No checks until then. Ive had a completely complication free and healthy pregnancy *knock on wood* so far. So that may be why i wasnt being checked sooner.

thanks ladies!! I have heard people can be dilated for weeks and it isn't a great indicator of when labor will start, just wanted to hear other's opinions !

I'm in the US, but I plan on declining them. They just don't seem medically necessary.
