Question about preeclampsia

Is it possible to have preeclampsia without the high BP? Or is that pretty much like diabetes without high/low blood sugar?

I've had this awful shoulder pain that reaches up into my neck for the last two weeks. I mentioned it to the Dr yesterday, and he couldn't pinpoint in my shoulder or neck where the pain was coming from, meaning it wasn't skeletal/muscular. He even tried massaging it and said there wasn't even a spot he could feel that was tight or would be causing the pain.

I thought I saw somewhere on here about how shoulder pain can be a sign of pre-e, but isn't high BP associated with it? Mine has always been normal.

As far as I'm aware shoulder pain is not associated with pre e, signs and symptoms are headaches, swelling and visual disturbances and then high BP and protein in your urine at your MW checks.

Sounds to me like you've strained something or maybe it's tension?

Its possible... I can't actually feel with my hand where the pain is coming from though which is what's weird. Massaging it doesn't work. And when I lay down on my left side (its the right shoulder that hurts), it feels like there's a tiny spot on fire almost. I've had headaches, but that's not out of the norm for me lol.

Shoulder pain isnt a symptom of pre eclampsia, as op said its headaches visiual disturbances, high bp, protien etc its very unlikely to have pre e and not have any of the side effects x

Thank you ladies! I'm not sure where I saw it, I could have sworn I saw someone on here post something about shoulder pain being linked to pre-e. Of course I could be mistaken as well, which is very possible

Actually you are correct. In some cases, the right upper abdominal quadrant pain from pre-e can refer pain into your shoulder.

However, shoulder pain is such a non-specific symptom that I would really not think it would be pre-e. I think you're looking at a situation where you slept wrong and tweaked something or something like that.

Actually, this has nothing to do with pregnancy but it could also be due to TMJ. I have that and it refers pain to my shoulder. The muscle that attaches behind my ear lobe to my jaw goes down the neck and attaches again behind my shoulder blade. Causes horrific shoulder/neck pain! And sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the location.

Pre e will only give u right upper quadrant and shoulder pain when it becomes quite advanced and bp is very high almost leading to hellp. I had silent pre e with normal bp and no protein in urine at all in my last pregnancy but ended up in icu after delivery and almost died.
