Has anybody had a placenta covering the cervix?

Hi guys, just popping over from 2nd tri, I had a scan today and they said my placenta is anterior low and covering the cervix so will need to go back later for another 1. My midwife rung me and told me if I have any bleeding to ring her straight away. Has anybody had this and the placenta ended up moving up and away from the cervix? i'd love to hear from anyone with experience with this...
Thanks heaps in advance
xx

Yes mine was covering at 20 weeks, I was really worried about it at the time. I spoke to my consultant and she said about the whole if I bled to go back straight away. However by my 24 week growth scan it had moved up.

I hope yours moves soon

Me too and the GP said that mine was unlikely to move, so spent a good few weeks worrying about it. Then had a private scan at Baby Bond - because I just could not wait 13 weeks for the next NHS one to know whether it had moved or not. They told me it was moving away at about 25 weeks. I just had the NHS one at 33 weeks and its well out of the way! So fret not!!! Hugs hug -
PS. If its anterior also, apparently its even more likely to move away. That means if the Placenta is on the front.

Yep!

i was due 4th Nov, and had Bryce on the 30th sept due to placenta previa and it being anterior. i knew all the way through there was a problem but all the kept saying was its low lying... (but not HOW low).. anyway 30 sept at 10am i started to bleed and it would stop called the ambulance i was 35 weeks at the time, and at the hosp i started passing huge clots, so they took me into theatre for an emergency section, turns out i had full covering placenta previa which covered my front wall went round babys head and uop the back wall.... they had to cut through it to get baby out.. i lost loads of blood but due to swift action by the snurses and docs etc.. i live to tell the tale.

bryce was born at 13.33 weighing a good 5lb 6oz!

Thanks guys! Yep it's anterior- she said it should move though because its only the edge of the placenta covering it. Kinda glad I will get to see baby again though too hehe. Feel pretty confident it will move away. My midwife rung me as soon as she got the report and said if any bleeding ring her strait away.
I'm glad everything worked out in the end for you Lou and wee Bryce arrived safely.
thanks guys

Hi,

My 20 week scan showed the same, and I have to another scan at 34 weeks.

As I'm not due until January I obviously can't update you much on if it moved etc, but I can advise that if you do have any bleeding, please go to hospital.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I had a bleed two weeks ago at 24 weeks + 5 days and had to spend two days in hospital and I am now nearing the end of two weeks complete bedrest that the doctor ordered. This was to prevent further bleeding and early delivery of the baby.

The doctor believed it was because the placenta may have moved but a scan could not confirm that.

As I said I'm not trying to scare you, just want to advise you of the importance of any signs of bleeding, get to the hospital and to take things everyday things carefully, no heavy lifting or straining etc.

I am sure everything will be fine :-), and you won't encounter the same probs as me.

90% of covering placenta's move by the due date anyway, so fingers crossed for the both of us x

Best wishes xx

Hi

My 20 week scan showed me that I too had a low lying placenta and I was booked to have a scan at 34 weeks (mid Dec) to check that it had moved.

However, complications started when I bled at 26 weeks (2 weeks ago). I thought nothing at first cause it wasn't a lot and it was bright red and it stopped very quickly. I called the midwife the next day to say what had happened and she checked me over and said if I bled again call the hospital.

BABYWOLF is so right that you need to be careful. I bled again 2 days later after doing nothing out of the norm, and when I called the hospital they asked me to go straight in. On arrival, I was still not aware of the severity of it all, but then I bled further. It was a brief moment of panic, I had a canular put in each hand and was given a steroid injection to help mature the baby's lungs - the consultant examined me and the bleeding had stopped. The scan showed that I have a full covering placenta, it is down the anterior wall and across the bottom and up with the majority posterior.

I was not allowed home as major bleeding is expected to occur. I'm told this happens for the majority at 32-36 weeks. However, my early bleeding has meant it could really occur any day now.

Apparently my Dr is the cautious type and has said in this scenario he has never let a woman go home and he has also never regretted that decision as all the right people are here to deal with whatever occurs.

I still feel a little unprepared for everything and am glad that 11 days have passed since that moment and the bleeding stopped a week ago.

I hope things work out all the best for you, but you do need to be mindful of the bigger picture..

Take care I have my fingers crossed too

xx

Sorry to interrupt

I have similar situ to you, only my placenta is part anterior then underneath and the majority is posterior- Can I ask did you have any bleeding prior to this?

Also I have a pain that occurs right at the top of my leg and in my groin - it was only when i walked upstairs or if i walked too quickly. But lately it seems to be all the time I am stood up, walking etc and only eases if i sit down - did you have this at all?

sorry but your situation seems t be the closest I can find to what I am experiencing

wow i get a pain like that 2- but i just put it down to baby lying in an awkward position!? I havn't had any bleeding whatsoever in this whole pregnancy not even spotting (touch wood). It sounds like you have had a really tough time with this I really hope the rest of your pregnancy is smooth. My placenta isnt covering as much as yours its only covering by the edge of the placenta so it is quite possible that it would have moved far away by then. when are you due?

x

hi ya

yes the journey this time does seem to have got a bit rough all of a sudden.

I'm not due til 28th jan 2010, I'll be 29 weeks on Thursday, so this is a real shock to think baby will be here soon and that i'm lucky it isn't yet already.

The midwife yesterday told me there are grades to placenta previa on a scale of 1-4, 1 being that only a small part is covering the cervix and 4 is no option but cesarean. Sad news is i am the grade 4, but in cases 1-3 there is every chance a normal delivery will happen.

Good luck as u have every chance things will be totally fine....

take care
