Second Time Mommies- Labor with number 2

Hi guys! I haven't posted in a while here I am finally in the third trimester with muffin #2 and was wondering what other second/third/fourth/etc time mommies' experiences were. Do you go into labor earlier with second? Is it quicker? I had my son at 39 weeks and 4 days.

The reason I ask is because I am trying to figure out when I should start working from home. I was thinking two weeks before the due date just in case. Also, my LO is measuring 2 weeks ahead (no GD, just bigger baby).

Looking forward to your stories!!

I went into labour earlier with my 2nd (42 weeks induced with my 1st, 41 weeks spontaneous with my 2nd). My 2nd labor was my longest (1st was about 6 hours, 2nd 9ish).

I had my first at 39+3 and it was 22hours start to finish.

Second one I started with false labour at 37 weeks and had very strong braxton hicks/mild contractions until delivering at 41+0. I opted for a home birth. Started with some v mild contractions at 5am like other false labour pains, called midwife at 7.30am thinking it was labour. Midwife arrived 9.45am examined me at 10 and I was 4-5 cm. baby was here an hour later at 11.02am! Had never expected it to be so fast!

First labor was a 19 hour labor and DS was born at 37+1 (spontaneous labor). I labored at home for 6.5 hours before going in and even though I was only a 1cm still, they kept me because I was contracting every 3-5 minutes at that point. Made 1cm every 1-2 hours after that.

Second labor was also 19 hours from start to finish and DD was born at 37+3. Again it was spontaneous labor and she came with one push. However, my contractions weren't regular right off the bat like they were with DS. They were strong but irregular all day and I kept waiting for them to stop but they didn't. After about 12 hours, they started getting regular and we went in at hour 15. DD was born 4 hours later.

LO's labor was different. I had an hour of really strong BH contractions before I went to bed, they started to hurt just as I fell asleep, and I woke up in full blown labor a few hours later. I went in 3 hours after that thinking I was ready to push because the pain was so intense only to find out I was barely a 4cm. 2 hours later, I was on supplemental oxygen, had 2 doses of IV pain meds that didn't work, and was begging for an epidural because the pain was so bad and I'd only progressed 1cm. Once it was placed though, I went from a 5cm to holding my baby in 1.5 hours. Labor started spontaneously at 38+1 and was 12 hours long.

I guess my point is that each labor can be different. My only consistent pattern is that I've gone early with each baby but I tend to make it a few days longer each time.

My labors were all extremely different, and each one started later than the last. Ha. My midwife says I'm going in the wrong direction. Subsequent babies DO tend to come earlier, but that's not true for everyone. Especially not for me. My #5 was 6 days late, and my #1 was 12 days early. Labor staff to finish lasted 22 hours with my first, 20 hours with my second, 8 hours with my third (induced), 22 hours with my fourth, and 30 minutes with my fifth.

Thank you ladies! I so appreciate your responses. I think I'll start working from home at 38 weeks just to be safe!

My first was born at 41+4 with a 16 hour labor.

Second was 40+4 with a 2 hour labor

I think your plan of working from home at 38 weeks is a good one, just in case!
