Starting Induction Tonight!

Hi ladies!

I'm technically at term as of yesterday, but apparently my fluid is low and my baby girl hasn't grown past 34 weeks due to my placenta not working properly anymore.. So she's got to come out!

I am having the balloon in over night! Can anyone tell me their experiences with the balloon? I am hoping it doesn't set me into labour in the middle of the night, because I'm worried DP won't hear his phone to be able to drop my DS at my sisters house and get to the hospital! he's a heavy sleeper! He insists on having DS with him tonight because it will be their last night together before the new baby as he's a night shift worker and hasn't been home since we found out the induction plans.

Ahh good luck!!

I had the balloon catheter inserted last pregnancy... But pleeeeease take this story with a pinch of salt because I don't want to scare you, and these were not usual circumstances.

So firstly, I hadn't dilated at all and I was VERY VERY VERY anxious so I was all tensed up. Secondly, no one who was on shift had inserted one before. So there was a room of like 5 people, and they all tried (and failed) to insert it many times. In the end, it took about an hour and a half and they said it was done. It did hurt, because I was so tense and just getting more and more tense each time they couldn't get it in.

Anyway, I went up to my room and I asked a nurse if they could have it checked because I didn't feel like it was inserted properly. It just didn't feel right. Well she said that's how it's supposed to feel (how would she know?) and it wasn't checked. About 4 hours later it fell out when I went to the toilet, which was supposed to mean that I had dilated enough.

They came in and checked, and I hadn't dilated at allllll. So they had inserted it incorrectly. I was annoyed because I knew that was the case and they hadn't listened to me. Anyway, when they said they would insert a new one, I actually cried and refused because it hurt so much the first time and it hasn't done anything, so I insisted for the gel instead. They agreed and then when they put the gel in, it burnt because of the damage they had done improperly inserting the balloon catheter!

Anyyyyway-- I am sure that if you RELAX, and an experienced person inserts it, that you will have no problem! I spoke to my friend who had it and she had a completely different experience to me!

Please come back and update us on how you go

Mum of roodys the balloon is a catheter they put in with two balloons that they pump with saline.. one sits above your cervix and one in the vagina and it manually dialates the cervix.

Omg Littlelala! That sounds awful!!!! I've just had mine put in about half an hour ago, and so far so good, thank goodness! It was uncomfortable with the speculum, but the actual balloon was absolutely fine. They did say I would be crampy in the first hour, but so far nothing! That's such a shame that you had such a tough time
