Labour stories ? How many weeks, induced csec etc..

Hi girls,

Just wondering if anyone is wanting to share their birth stories! Such as how did it start, how many weeks where you, was it natural, induced c-sec etc..

It would be interesting to read some!

I'm 38 weeks with number 2! So nervous as was induced with my first after waters breaking without contracting so don't know what to expect.

Thank you in advance X

I woke up on the thursday morning to find I was losing my plug, think that was 41+1. Had a bit of cramping. Friday and saturday had sone contractions but would stop after a couple of hours. Had some more intense contractions sunday morning, thought they'd keep going but they stopped again! I kept busy during the day and they started again late afternoon and kept going, went to watch tv in bed about 8:30-9ish then dozed off until about 1am when I was woken by reeeaallly intense contractions. Was getting more blood with each contraction so I phobed the hospital at 4am because it was more like a period than the plug so went in and I was 5cm so they kept me there. Long story short couldn't have a water birth because they needed to monitor my bleeding and ended up with a drip to increase the intensity of my contractions because they weren't wrapping round to the front. DD got distressed when I only had a couple of pushes left so they did an episiotomy. was surprised to see the back of her head as the pain in my back was excruciating then the midwife said she could see her elbow! I delivered her body without a contraction because she was dark purple! She was born a few minutes after midday 41+5 gestation with meconium absolutely everywhere! Was due to be induced 8:30 the following morning!

My birth story from my 1st is in the signature. I had a home birth, was 37 weeks, waters went first as well but contractions started within an hour or two, and she was born 11 hours later. Hoping for roughly the same this time, though last time I pushed for 4 hours! So I'd love one of those, 'I only pushed for 5 minutes' kind of births!

For DS, my labor started naturally at 6am, by noon I was contracting every 5 minutes so we went in and to my dismay I was only a 1cm. I walked the halls, sat on the ball and made 1cm every 1-2 hours after that. The dr broke my water when I was complete and DS was delivered with one push. Start to finish, labor was 19 hours and it was natural, unmedicated labor.

With DD, it was much the same except my contractions stayed irregular all day. We went in after about 15 hours because my contractions had gotten regular and I was at a 4cm. Again, I walked and used the ball, the dr broke my water when I was complete, and DD was born with one push. Start to finish, labor was again 19 hours long.

With LO, I had strong BH off and on all day but then they started coming regularly at 7pm. I drank some water, went to bed early, and figured they would just stop. Only the next one HURT. I managed to sleep 3 hours before the cramps woke me up and I got up. Walked for a few hours at home, got some housework done, and when my contractions were coming every 4-5 minutes, I woke DH up. We got to the hospital at 2:30am and I wasn't able to stand up through the contractions anymore so I was absolutely certain I would be pushing that baby out as soon as they got me in a bed. I started crying when the nurse told me I was barely a 4cm. Two hours later, I asked for IV meds because the pain was intolerable and I'd only progressed 1cm. (My legs would give out if I tried to stand or walk and a contraction came. I was also unable to breathe properly when a cramp would start because the contraction would cause my diaphragm to tighten up.) IV meds worked for one contraction and the effects were totally gone within 15 minutes so I begged for an epidural. An hour and a half after it was placed, I was holding my LO. I had no side effects from the epidural and my only complaint was that the site was a bit tender for awhile. Start to finish, her labor was 12 hours long.

With all three of my kids, my labor started spontaneously and I did nothing to trigger it on my own. Each time I was checked prior to starting labor, I was at a 1cm and I had no pre-labor signs. The first hint that labor was starting for me was that I'd cramp and it would HURT. (My BH are just my belly getting tight and hard. They aren't painful.) DS came at 37+1, DD was born at 37+3, and LO was born at 38+1.

With this baby, we'll see what happens. It's likely I'll go early but I don't feel like I'll go quite as early as I have with my other kids as I've gone longer with each one and I'm hoping for a natural, med-free birth but not adverse to getting an epidural if I need it.

And one last note-with LO's pg, we didn't know I had a slightly slipped disc in my lower spine. The area that is/was most affected was where the nerves to the reproductive system meet with the spinal cord and 2 chiropractors as well as my OB have told me that is likely why I had such bad labor pains with LO compared to my other kids. She also was born slightly sunny-side up and that can cause pretty intense back labor which only made my back pain worse. We found the disc issue a year after LO was born and I've been treated for it so the hope is this time, I won't have the same problem. But I know to expect it just the same.

Aww I love reading these stories!!
Still amazes me that people have babies before 40 weeks because in my mind it will never happen before then

I don't feel as though he will turn up early, given that his sister was overdue!!

X

My first started in the early hours of my due date, waters went and I was contracting every 5 minutes or so an hour later. Fast forward about 10 hours, still not dilated so I get a pessary, 12 hours later get moved to delivery, 15 hours after that he was born in theatre via forceps after an hour of pushing due to complications with us both. My labour was 38 hours total and he arrived at 40+1.

With my second I started with niggling contractions at 39+2, had them again the next day but they weren't stopping however they were mild and about 20 minutes apart. Skip to about 8pm and they start coming sooner and getting stronger, I went to hospital at 11pm, cervix was high and closed, contractions were subsiding but the internal started them again and much stronger so I stayed, things progressed nicely over the next 6 hours, I went for a pee and my waters went, she arrived 20 minutes later after 8 minutes of pushing at 39+4. This labour was just 9 hours total and a much, much better experience.

With my first DD I went to the dr with what I thought were regular BH (I had NO IDEA I was in labor) and was shocked to find out I was already 8 cm dilated! They rushed me to L&D in a wheel chair, broke my waters and I began to push about an hour after being admitted. It took 2 hours before the baby was born because 1) she was my first and 2) she was 9 lbs. so I was pretty exhausted by the end. I didn't even have time to get an epidural.

With my first DS I told myself I was going to get to the hospital earlier this time. When I was checked for dilation at my midwife's office, I was 5 cm. They let me walk this time and in the short walk I took to get over to L&D I was already 7 cm! He came very quickly, in only 15 minutes of pushing, which was a complete relief because of how long my first took.

With my second DD, I had to go through emergency because it was after hours and my midwife's office was closed. The nurse that checked me in emergency said I was 6 cm dilated so they were going to admit me and call my midwife in. She came about a half hour later and checked me. I was already at 9 cm but I had to hold off another half hour because I tested GBS+ this pregnancy and they wanted to make sure I got all the antibiotics in me before they broke my waters. It was torture fighting through those contractions, and by the time they broke my waters, the baby had moved to an unfavorable position so I was having a hard time pushing her out. After about an hour of pushing to no avail, they gave me a peanut ball, and after I used that she literally came out with one big push. My midwife didn't even have time to put on gloves... she had to deliver her bare handed.
