High Blood pressure & Birth options

Hi Ladies,

I have been diagnosed with mild Gestational Hypertension at 30 weeks, and since then I have been on Hy-po-tone to keep my blood pressure low - so far it has worked. My baby is also weighing a little small for her gestational age (around 1 - 2 weeks behind) and even though the flow to baby is still good, my OB is worried she isnt getting enough 'food' from me to grow like she should due to my elevated Blood pressure in the previous weeks. I have an appointment today again so see how my BP is and how much she weighs..

My question is though, if there is anyone who had a similar situation to mine, what was your birth options? How did it turn out? Would you change anything? I would love to have a normal vaginal birth without being induced.. is this even possible with high BP?

P.S. I have no other preeclampsia symptoms, so far..

Hello there!
I had a similar experience except my midwives/doctors blew off the fact that my baby was measuring smaller and smaller with each growth scan.

I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension around 30 weeks and was induced (very much against my wishes at the time) because of my blood pressure at 38+0. I also had no other signs of preeclampsia after taking multiple blood tests and urine tests and my pressures were fine at home so I attributed the high office pressures with anxiety for the most part.

Anyway, after the fact I was glad to have been induced (except for the anxiety it caused me) because my baby was born in the 3rd percentile for weight. I had been concerned about my baby's size and not my blood pressure as much so if they had told me I was being induced for that reason I would have felt so much better about it. I was never given any treatment for the high pressures.

My baby tolerated 29 hours of labor well but in the end I had to push laying on my back because her heart rate was too high in the position I was more comfortable in.

My induction began with a foley balloon, per my request, and after my anxiety - driven pressures lowered after being admitted I was free to walk around and do my thing with a wireless fetal monitor.
I was very anxious about the induction process but everything went pretty smoothly, i had a vaginal birth and my baby was able to do skin to skin immediately and never needed to go to the NICU. She did require some extra blood draws because she was so small, though.

Best of luck and hope this helps!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried to significantly increase my high quality calorie intake after she began measuring small (around 30-32wks). I'm not sure if it helped or not but I like to think it was better than nothing :-)
