Third trimester fetal biometry

Hi Mommies,

I'm a first time soon to be father and asking for your opinions.

We are on our last trimester and a bit worried on the latest ultrasound results.

Age of Gestation : 29w3d

Ultrasound results are:
BPD = 77.7 mm = 31w1d
OFC = 98 mm
HC = 281 mm = 30w6d
AC = 237 mm = 28w
FL = 51.1= 27w3d
EFW = 1198g +/- 175g

Average Ultrasound = 29w2d

The average ultrasound and Age of Gestation is almost the same but we are bit worried on the FL which is measuring 2weeks behind from the Gest. age and 3 weeks behind from the HC.

Also the AC is 10 days behind and the BPD is 2 weeks ahead.

Please help us.

Thank you very much

Ultrasound measurements have a margin of error of + or - 10 days.If your doctor/midwife aren’t worried about anything, then you’re fine! Sometimes baby gets in a weird angle which makes it hard to measure them easily. None of the measurements are more than 2 weeks out, which means it probably wouldn’t trigger any alarm bells.

I agree with PP. Both my children's limbs measure behind on ultrasounds in third tri. It has never been a concern.

Unless the dr brings it up as a concern there isn't anything to worry about.

I really wouldn't worry about it, my little ones legs are measuring 4 weeks ahead 😳 They just said he will be tall. Also at my 28 wk scan a couple of measurements were a week or so behind but they had caught up at the next scan (32 weeks), sometimes they just have a growth spurt/get a bit behind but unless they are consistently off the charts big/small I wouldn't worry at all, they are just averages after all, I think your results look great x

Hi mommies,

Thanks for your replies. really helpful.

Our baby's Femur is consistently behind 1wk-2wks since 2nd to 3rd trim but OB doesn't worry about it and told us it's normal. btw , our babies might have same birthday. Ours due is feb 11, 2018.

I haven't had an ultrasound since 21 weeks, but every metric they checked gave a different due date some ahead, some behind. I wouldn't worry.

I'm confused by your due date though. I'm 32 weeks now and not due until March 5th. Are you sure Feb. 11th is right?

My first two kids always had their femurs behind, and nothing ever matched up in any of their measurements.

Emma had a small head in my late 3rd tried scans and they were worried that her head growth was someone behind, because I had gestational diabetes. She also had low fluid, and dropped in growth by 36 weeks.

However she came out at and I can assure you that all her body parts were just fine :-). Her head was spot on average, she was 7.5lbs and an average length and arrived at 38+6.
