31 weeks, in L&D for PTL.

I worked 5-8pm last night. Got over heated and dizzy, kept sitting down as much as I could. Belly felt tight all day. Got home around 8:30, laid down on my left side and propped my feet up.

Braxton Hicks kept coming on and I was getting nervous but waived it off as just working too hard. But they kept coming, and I realized they were getting closer and stronger. Not painful, but that "oof" feeling... Finally around 9:30 I decided that it was too many to be good, so headed to ER.

ER sent me up to L&D. They had me filling out papers, and even as I stood there, I felt like a fool. I couldn't feel any new contractions and I was walking/talking just fine. Nurse took me to a room and didn't come back for 20 minutes. She dropped off my gown and asked for urine sample. She was gone another 20 minutes.

Finally a new nurse came in and she hooked me up to the machine. Checked my cervix and said I was at a 1. Took some basic medical history... and as Iaid there, I could feel the contractions again. I asked her, are these BH or contractions? She switched screens to the monitor and... "Contractions. 3 minutes apart lasting about 30 seconds. Let me go get the Dr."

She came back with bottles and needles and IV and... I have to say my anxiety spiked. I was given IV saline and antibiotics in case baby comes and I haven't been tested for GBS. I got a shot of Terbutaline in the left arm,.. this stuff is INTENSE. First it burns like fire under your skin. Then it causes your heart rate to accelerate and I started hyper ventilating. I couldn't keep my eyes open and felt like I was going to pass out. I asked for a bag to throw up into, but she told me to use it to control my breathing instead. The nausea and worst of the dizziness passed after I got my breathing regular.

Another nurse came in and administered a shot of steroids in my right hip. It stung a little but nothing compared to that other shot... They told me I get round 2 in 12 hours. It was now 11:45... they told me it will either be a 12 or 24 hr stay.

My heart rate is was still fluttery but I feel like my contractions had slowed and my uterus felt the most relaxed it had since 8. Nurse came back around 12:30 and said they had slowed to 7 minutes apart but were creeping back to 3-5 minutes. Obviously not great, so they convinced me to do the shot again... This time I immediately slapped the bag on my face and from injection (lol I cussed this time) til the dizziness passed... I just breathed.

By 3 a.m. they were satisfied, the contractions had essentially stopped. I slept a little rough, as I need a fan to sleep and not to sound ungrateful of hearing baby's heart beat, but it was distracting when he kept moving, could hear every movement.

Dr came around 8 am, and ordered modified bed rest (no work, no sex). Said if I was 35+ weeks I'd probably make it to term but this early he doesn't want me working on my feet at fast pace/hot setting.

About an hour ago, I started having BH again and I was so scared it was happening again. But they are not regular so my nurse isn't concerned.

Finally it's 11:30 and my nurse just gave me my shot. It burns, lol... but I don't have the Terbutaline distracting me like last night. They took out my IV, gonna have me eat and get dressed. I'm headed home.

Thanks ladies.

Having Braxton Hicks, trying to not let them worry me. They're so frequent though, it's not fun. 35 weeks is my goal. Gonna take it easiest between now and then.

Now I'm wondering if I should move my plans up to wash all the baby's clothes and pack my hospital bag.

Glad you're ok! I was admitted for a weekend at 33+3 for possible pre term labour due to bleeding and continuous braxton hicks, it is very scary i feel for you! Doctor said i have an irritable uterus which is causing them. Every day since I've had them.constantly every day! X

I'm definitely thinking I have an irritable uterus... all I gotta do is walk across the house or pick up something off the floor, and I get a BH contraction.

Nothing to be done other than don't push it and wait. I try to do most of my cleaning sitting down in a computer chair and rolling around.
