Yes, I thought of that after I posted it. Not my intention, I assure you! I am pretty surprised at how different it is in the UK from the US. My OH is definitely a minority here, and I can't imagine having never seen a circumcised penis!

hi girls -

i'm having a little boy and i also live in the US. the only issue i have had with worry about getting our baby circumcised is whether the boy himself would feel weird or resent us not doing it. i too have rarely seen an uncircumcised penis so i know it is quite uncommon here. however, it seems pretty much cosmetic & unnecessary and there is absolutely no way i feel comfortable doing something like that to a child. we will NOT be getting our son circumcised and i'm sure i will be met with some resistance from people in the area, as it is seen as "not okay" to be "different", another idea i'd like to stamp out for our son.

lol probably not - but looking at a circumcised one I don't quite understand where or how the 'snip' happens... and I don't intend to find out - that's why OH can deal with getting it done to our LO!

It surprised me in talking to some of the people I work with that most of the women with children never even thought of NOT having their sons circumcised as an option. In fact, out of the 4 men in my department, only one isn't circumcised. (we have lots of work-inappropiate convos!)

I know what you mean about resistance. Here in the south (well, sorta Oklahoma is a funny state) uncircumcised men are rare and even my OB is unhappy with my decision. That was a major criteria in picking a pediatrician, we wanted one who would support us in our decision and we found one! Took some searching though!
