2nd time mummies - or more - PND ???

Well I just wanted to ask as I have been a little fretful of how things will go for me this time after baby arrives.

The short version- when I had my dd (now 5) I was on top of the world, blissfully happy, loved her to bits, in a very happy loving relationship and couldnt imagine anything could ruin how happy I was. 3 weeks exactly after having her, I woke up one morning feeling deeply physically ill - I cant explain it. The night before I had been fine, went to bed as normal, nothing had happened at all. But upon waking I literally felt like death and had a panic attack at how ill I felt - I thought I was dying.

For the next couple of days I cried and cried, feeling awful and felt like I had this terrible thing hanging over me. Went to see the doctor on the 3rd day and was told I had PND - to which I was not happy, wouldnt believe him, convinced I was dying and ordered that I needed testing for various diseases (proper looney tune).

Well, this went on for months. Visits to the doctor a couple of times a week, crying constantly, freaking out at everything, convinced i was seriously ill. I was given anti d's which I was on for 9 months, my pnd lasted about 3 years.

I was so afraid of loosing my family because I believed I was dying and its left me with a fear of death and awful anxiety when I get unwell.

Anyway - thats enough about that.

I just wanted to know if other mums who have had PND went on to get it again, i know they say there is no link for subsequent children but needed some reassuring. Im so scared of it happening again - only guess this time i'll know whats going on I guess.

x

I don't have any experience with PND, but I do with depression (is it even the same thing?). Anyhow, my story's pretty much the same as yours. I went loopy after having my 3rd child, and after a battery of tests proved that I in fact was not dying or physically ill, I was put on an anti-depressant which I was on until shortly before TTC this baby.

I'm also a bit worried about how it's going to go when the baby comes, but I have pills waiting in my cupboard if need be. I know they're not the answer, but they will make my head clear enough to find the right path. If that makes sense....

Yes, post natal depression - after a birth.

Sounds like yours manifested its way the same way mine did.

Oh wow I must have had PND after having my daughter...I too thought I was dying and was at the dr's everyday almost just to have them tell me nothing was wrong everytime...This turned into horrible anxiety where I couldn't even eat and I ended up weighing 96 pounds and I'm 5 foot 7, it was the scariest time in my life. I was scared to walk to our mailbox!! My breast milk dried up and that further added to my anxiety, it wasnt until my daughter was about 1 1/2 that I finally snapped out of it without anti-depressants, it sort of just went away. I really hope I dont go through that again, it was the worst!!!

Hello hun sorry you had to go through this with your daughter and i hope it doesnt happen again.
I had it with first DS and was terrified of having a second time after DS#2 and i did get it again BUT it was no where as bad as it was with my first. I know this isnt really reasuring but if you can regonise the symptoms quick enough (my OH noticed mine) and now im pregnant with my third and know it could possibly come back again but im ready for it!
Plus you might not get it again I hope not Enjoy your babies xxxx
Lots of love xxx

I had it with my first and second, it's awful and I told my mw that it's freaking me out because I hate feeling that way, apparently there is something they can give you before birth to help, can't remember what but worth speaking to your mw about your concerns x

It does sound like it was the same! I do think I have a mild depression though, as opposed to PND. I think it was just a coincidence, and that having the baby triggered it.
