28 weeks measuring 26 weeks.....

Hey girls...Hope you and bumps are well. I just had a mw appointment and all went well. Told her about my ankles that are swolen and we are going to keep an eye on it as as bp and urine were fine. I was all ok until she measured my tummy. Im 28 weeks but im measuring 26 weeks. Its worrying me but she seemed to shrug it off and said its fine. I have a growth scan with my consultant next week friday. Is this not something that she should really be a little concerned about, esp considdering that im high risk for another abruption???

Hey hun...didnt want to read and run. I think its quite bad that MW doesnt talk through anything thats a little different to the norm in your pregnancy after your previous loss....they really shouldnt make sweeping statements and then shrug it off as that will now worry you until next week. What I will say is that its fairly normal to measure 2cm either side and that fundal height isnt a true reflection...i was measuring 6 weeks ahead at one point and then on my growth scan my LO was bang on target for size/gestation.

All MW will measure differently too...so please try not to panic, and if you need to, request to be seen again and talk it over xxxx

No, they don't worry until you're measuring 3 or sometimes even 4cm behind or ahead your dates. It's a very inaccurate measurement, especially as a lot depends on how LO is lying vif you've got a growth scan anyway there's nothing else she could do even if she was worried x

Thanks for the replies girls. I think im just panicking a bit as when we lost Bodhi last year he weighed in at 5 pounds 9 which the consultant said was on the small side considdering his gestation of 36.4 weeks. I had the same mw as what i have now and when she measured me a week before with Bodhi i was measuring behind. Sorry if im sounding really paranoid....

I had a smilar experience... I only measured 23cm at my 28 wk appt and was referred for an urgent growth scan.

Turns out I had nothing to worry about at all and baby measured spot on!

I was advised at hospital that 2cms either side is no cause for concern at all... so I am sure you have nothing to worry about

My LO was lying transverse when my fundal height was measured which affected the measurement and the mw at hospital was really annoyed that my own mw hadn't mentioned this and reassured me!! She even measured my fundal height again and it was 29 (and this was only two days later!!)

It is so frustrating that mw's can't be more reasurring and helpful if the fundal height measurement is a little out!!

Thankss for the reply sweetie. It does make me feel better knowing that if little man was laying transverse it could explain why my measurements were out. Glad all is well with your little one.

where i am they never measure fundal height, always just put a line through it. Never really thought much about it to be honest, tho measured myself from internet instructions at one point and was measuring 39 when i was only 33 weeks. All my scans have showed growth spot on so think they are more accurate. Its so hard not to worry though. My best friend lost her baby at 37 weeks and her baby was only 5lb. With her next baby they just used scans to check for growth and not fundal measurements, same area as me, but i know how worried she was her whole pregnancy, so hard not to after the previous loss x
