Had a growth scan at 29 weeks... help!

Hey girls just looking a bit of reassurance, had a growth scan yesterday- not sure why as i thought it was just a midwife appointment, but she said the baby was weighing in at 4.25 pounds.
I was like :O is that not MASSIVE?
Midwife just said oooh shes gonna be a biggun!
When i got home in my baby book it says average weight at 29 weeks is 2.5pounds? And it said that big babies could be a sign of gestational diabetes- but my midwife didnt mention any of that though she took 3 vials of blood as well.
Im really concerned now that im going to end up with a monster sized baby to give birth to. Im booked in for another scan in 6 weeks so I guess we'll see then? Im not sure what to expect now!

I dont know why they didnt give you a reason for the scan, thats a bit odd! DOnt worry about the bloods, they take routine bloods then anyway and the follow up scan will be to check on LO's growth. Your baby is big but if they were worried about GD I'm sure they wouldve said. COuld you give your MW a call and say you have had time to think and have a few questions? Dont worry though, sure all is fine xx

Umm... I just looked at my results from yesterday (31wks) and my bub's weight is just under 2kgs, which is about 4.3 pounds and I have only been told that he will be tall, not so much "big"....???
Oh and also, next to the weight it shows where he is placed on average and it indicates he is well within the norm and that's in Italy where most people are short and small lol!

I wouldn't worry about diabetes. I was measuring big so I had the GD blood tests and they came back normal. The midwife said this would most likely be the case as my urine, which is tested at every appointment, has never shown traces of glucose which is the normal indicator of GD. Maybe your baby has had a growth spurt and growth may slow down a little now. X

I have an antenatal class tonight so I'll ask then, thank you for the replies though they make sense i was just having horrifying visions of pushing out some 13lb baby! She did test my urine at the appointment and said it showed protein and asked if I had had any pains but that was it she didnt mention glucose or anything, I'll take my maternity notes in tonight and ask a midwife to see if I was tested for GD though.

I was the same way. They will keep a close check on the size of the baby and will not make you vaginally deliver one they think is too big due to the complications. Mine was weighing the same and was breech. Now I'm 33 weeks and he has turned but I don't know how much he is weighing.

I was told this!! at 25weeks and 29 weeks, I was told to 'forget the 1st size baby grows' .. So for ages I was expecting a big baby, then at 38 weeks they re-scanned me to tell me he was fine and his 'weight gain' was now normal, I've had 2 friends be told the same too! and there babys to have come out 7lb odd, I really wouldn't take much notice hun
