32 weeks, but measuring 37cm, need advice!!

Hey ladies,

Just after a bit of advice here if anyone has had a similar experience.

Had my MW appointment today, everything was all good but my fundal height was measuring big....37cm and im only 32 weeks.

She said could either be that there is too much amniotic fluid or baby is big and said i may need to be induced.

So had a ultrasound today (they got me in right away) and fluid levels were normal and she was measuring still in the normal range but the high end of the range so at this stage i just have to go back for another MW app in 2 weeks.

Anyone had a similar exp and what was the outcome??

TIA for any respones

the midwife said I was measuring 36 at my 31 week appointment. I have my growth scan on the 23rd so hopefully all will be ok. she didnt mention being induced but said I may have to have another GTT even though it was only done at 28 weeks and came back negative for GD

They didnt offer a scan right then midnight moon? To check fluid and size etc?

My GTT came back negative at 28 weeks too but they didnt say anything about needing another one?

no, there were 2 midwives at my 31 week appointment, mine and the one who measured me (who also did my blood pressure and said it was too then was fine when mine did it again)

They discussed getting me in for a scan earlier than 34weeks but decided to leave it till then. same midwife measured me as 31cm at 28weeks but didnt say anything was wrong then either. I was overweight to begin with so I dont know if thats why they havent pushed the scan forward or if they know I won't get an appoinment any sooner... who knows! I just hope LO is ok

yup this happened to me. But my normal mw was on vacation and so i saw a new one...she measured me 3 or 4 weeks larger than I was...she freaked out and sent me straight to L&D but everything worked out. There was no reason to panic in my case because when my usual MW arrived she checked me and i was spot on!

i measured 31 at 29wks. then had a routine check up scan (my ob does one in 3rd trimester as well.) at my scan the baby was measuring big and the abdomen and head size were over 90 or 97th percentile. can't remember what exactly he said. went to the dr today and it was about the same so i will have another scan in 2 weeks at just over 35wks. i too was definitely negative for diabetes. so baby just seems big. i have 2 other boys that were both over 8lbs so i'm not really surprised. it did shock me when he said possibly 10lbs!! but i don't see myself going over due or anything. this is my 3rd and i think this baby moose will break out sooner! try not to worry. it may just be genetic for you to have a big baby! i love big healthy babies.

my experience is a little different - i measured 36cm at 32 weeks and had glucose in my urine. so i had a gtt (normal) and a scan, which showed the baby was in the upper limits of normal growth (90th centile) and a lot of extra fluid. they said that, as i didn't have diabetes there was no need to be really concerned, but booked me in for another scan 2 weeks later. then, the growth was the same, but the fluid had gone down to normal (just!). they said to see my midwife 2 weeks later, which i did and she felt that, although my measurement was actually ok there was possibly a lot of fluid and the baby's position was very 'mobile'. so yesterday i had another scan - growth now 97th centile and the fluid is above normal again. i'm now 37 weeks and i have an appointment tomorrow with my consultant to discuss the plan. induction was mentioned, but i don't think it would be early.

since your scan and gtt were normal, i don't think you need to worry - i've been told the measurement can be really quite inaccurate and is only meant as a rough guide as it can be affected by other factors, like your own size / muscle tone or baby's position. hope everything is ok at your next appointment x

Hiya ive been measuring 4 weeks ahead all along, mw kept saying she was going to induce me and please dont get your hopes up of meeting baby early as the consultants at the hospital say they will not induce unless they really need to as women are having 9/10lb babies and managing. plus theres a risk when they induce you a c-section may have to take place. my fluid around baby was fine and they think shes just got long legs but ive been estimated to have a 9lb baby. im 5ft 8 so they say i could manage it unless ur tiny in height they will leave you. like i say they told me everytime i go we are going to induce you early and look im still here at 38+4

i understand that - i don't expect, or want, to be induced early unless the baby or i are at risk. also, growth scans are not good at predicting babies' birthweight so i have no idea how much my baby will weigh. one niggling concern i do have is that i'm 5 foot nothing and have been told by a physiotherapist that my hips / pelvis feel small!
