does baby have to be engaged to go into labour

You would thinik i would know this but is it possible to be told babys head is free and then still go into labour not long after? can u go into labour without baby head being engaged? You would think with 2 kids i would know but both them late due to bad positioning and i cant remember half what i was told at that point lol x

its only normally your first that the head engages before labour - normally the rest of your babies wont engage until labour starts

I was told unless its your first babies head normally isnt engaged until you go into labor... so for your third its normal for head not to be engaged.. didnt stop me being disspointed though at every MW appointment when they said the head was still free !!

i asked my doctor this question today and she said you can go into labour when your cervix is ready (mine is shortened and opening but baby is not engaged yet) so yes you can go into labour without baby being engaged, she said the cervix can sometimes be ready before the baby is (like in my case) x

Yes you can! I went into spontaneous labour with my DS at 37+6 and he was not engaged at all - I know for sure as he was breech!

Saw my mw today and my baby is still free. She booked my next app and said you might have had her by then. I questioned this seeing as baby was still free and she said u can still go into labour like this as baby's head will all of a sudden drop x
