Pregnancy Notes Abbreviations


I bought Pregnancy & Birth magazine yesterday and it came with a free pregnancy and birth handbook by a famous doctor (not sure if I'm allowed to say her name on here!). In the handbook there is a handy list of abbreviations you might come across in your notes and I found it really helpful so thought I'd share for those who haven't bought the magazine and are unsure of the lingo!

Will also post in 1st & 2nd Tri

NAD/nil - Nothing abnormal discovered in urine
Alb - Albumin in urine (protein)
BP - Blood pressure
FHH/NH - Fetal heart heard/not heard
FH - Fetal heart
FMF - Fetal movements felt
Ceph. - Cephalic, the baby is head down
Vx - Vertex, the baby is head down
Br. - Breech, the baby is bottom down
LMP
- Last menstrual period
EDD/EDC - Estimated date of delivery or confinement
Hb - haemoglobin levels to check for anaemia
Eng/E - Engaged, the baby's head has dropped down in to the pelvis
NE - not engaged
Para O - woman has no other children
Para 1 (etc) - woman has one child
Fe - Iron has been prescribed
TCA - To come again
PET - Pre-eclamptic toxaemia
Long L - Longitudinal lie, the baby is parallel to your spine
Relation of PP to brim - brim of pelvis, the presenting part (PP) of the baby to the brin in the later stages of your pregnancy will be the part in your cervix ready to be born first
Oed. - Oedema
RSA - Right sacrum anterior (the most common breech position)
AFP - Alpha fetoprotein
CS - Caesarean section
H/T - Hypertension
MSU - mid-stream urine sample
Primigravida - first pregnancy
Multigravida - more than one pregnancy
VE - vaginal examination

ha ha I know some one mentioned about posting a certain author/baby experts name and they got a warning about it and her post removed due to the fact she doesnt allow her name mentioned on forums! think it would get BnB in serious trouble...

I will say she's a doctor and her surname starts with "Stop..."

haha i think i must be being a total mong but i have no idea...i just typed dr stop into google hahaha.

The only famous dr's i can think of are dr hilary off this morning. It's him isnt it? Ahh good old Dr Hilary Stop

thanks for that worrisome pmsl!!!

She's gone transverse now Worrisome so the rib pain has eased thankfully! It didnt half get sore when she was breech though eek!! How about yours?

Glad she's moved hun and its eased. No my little one is still the same hasnt engaged but mw said normal for this not to happen until labour with 3rd, but I feel really uncomfortable and sore this time. Eeee the joys eh lol
