Natural birth?

I was informed yesterday by my Dr. that I'll probably have to have a natural birth. I have multiple back problems (Spina Bifida Occulta, herniated disks, my bottom vertebrate hit my spinal cord, and scoliosis) all of which are being managed and have been since I was 10. I was told that under his experience, no one will come near me with an epidural and I'll more than likely have to ride out the entire birth naturally. I thought about a C-section but won't they need to do an epidural for that as well? I'm trying to keep it out of my mind but I'm actually terrified (despite a high pain tolerance). I guess my question is, are there any ladies on here who did it naturally who can tell me their experiences or anyone here planning on a natural birth?

I have had a C-section, an epidural birth, and a natural birth. The absolute best birth experience I had was the natural birth. I found that there wasnt much point in the epidural anyway. All it did for me was take the edge off...something that couldve been accomplished with proper positioning and relaxation techniques.

I am so glad you told me that. Every one I talk to tells me the epidural helped them enjoy their birth and I'm scared that I'll be in too much discomfort to do so. Even my mother who recently had a double mastectomy for breast cancer and refused pain meds afterwards told me it was the worst pain she had ever felt and couldn't do it without the epidural.

i'm puttin in my birth plan that i don't want an epidural under any circumstances, i'm not bothered by the pain... if our grandma's could do it then so can we... plus i'm scared of needles nd more scared of not bein able to feel anythin than feelin no pain.
the majority of people i've spoke to would pick a natural birth over section any day.
plus if u need an emergency section then u would get a general anaesthetic.
xx

Very true. It's just hard to keep your mind on the big picture when you keep getting sarcastic "Good luck" comments when you tell someone you're going to have to labor naturally ya know?

Ideally I would like a natural waterbirth. However at 41+1 and induction booked for friday, that is looking less likely for me. Water is meant to be good pain relief. Could that be an option for you?

Alot of people say that. Reality is, our bodies were designed to give birth and we can withstand the pain and work through it! I posted this link yesterday to a different thread discussing natural birth. It has been helpful for me. I plan on giving birth naturally, and without a partner!

i've been gettin the opposite... my family have been windin me up (puttin too much pressure on me if i'm honest) that if i have an epidural it means i'm a wimp!
my mum nd aunty said that it means i'm a wimp if i scream!

I was thinking about that but I honestly don't know who to ask for it or what it entails. I'm already registered at the hospital and I'm honestly unsure if they offer that as an option. I hope you get your water birth!

Oh my goodness....I dont know what I would say to them. Probably not something nice. Dont let them pressure you into doing anything that doesnt feel right for you! If you want an epidural, get one...if you want to have natural childbirth and you need to scream then do it! You def wont be the first or the last for either!! Thats my two cents to your mum and your aunty and your family. :P
