Low Fluid

Morning ladies,

I had a 4d scan yesterday at Baby Bond which should our liittle one to be in fine health. However, before we left she checked my fluid and the test shows it is low - 8cm. I have to go back to Baby Bond next week for a rescan as the images did not come out too well and they will check the fluid again. The sonographer also said I should call my midwife on Monday and let her know. For about the last month or so I have had a damp patch in my underwear which I thought was just the usual discharge but now I'm not so sure. I mentioned it to my midwife the other week and she said it was probably just normal discharge and not to worry but how do I know if its fluid leaking? Is there anything I could do to help replenish the fluid in addition to rest? Has anyone been in this position and might have some advice? Thanks.

Hannah x

How far along are you?

I had fluid at 6cm in week 28, 8cm in week 29 then 13cm in week 30. You just need to make sure you drink a LOT of fluids and cut out caffiene as it's a diuretic.

It's really common to have constantly wet underwear at the later stage of pregnancy. To see if it's your waters you should lay down for 30-40 minutes with a pad on. If when you stand you feel a gush it might be your waters and you should get it checked out.

Thanks Sausages. I'm 31 weeks today. I will definately try lying down for a bit to see what happens when I stand up. Hannah

I had low fluid and was told to lay on my left when possible, drink lots of water and rest lots too. Also cut out caffiene if you haven't already. I done this and waters jumped up again.

Also, some woman just carry with low liquor and ts completely normal, but they will keep an eye on you closely so bright side - more scans

Thanks NickyNack. I have drunk loads of water today and plan on keeping this up. I'm also thinking of dropping to 4 days a week until I start maternity leave just to give me a day at home to put my feet up properly. I'm starting tomorrow with an unofficial "day off" and have 2 discs of Dexter to watch. My mum said she didn't carry much water so maybe that could be a factor? I did end up going for a 25 minute (gentle) walk today as the traffic was horrible. I have pains in my bump now so I hope its just because of the walk and nothing else.

Mines has been lower end of normal since it jumped up and hey are happy enough. As long as bubs is moving plenty and your not leaking any fluid you will be fine. They are over cautious which is a good thing for bubs but not for your blood pressure!!!!
