Need some help... Crapping my pants about my appt today... **UPDATE**

Firstly, please do not comment if you have nothing positive or helpful to say as this whole situation has made me very anxious and emotional as it is. I am not asking for an opinion on c-sections, I just want some tips from people who may have been in the same boat, thanks

I have been booked in to see my consultant midwife today to discuss my birth concerns. I want a c-section for many reasons and feel like i almost need to 'convince' her today to give me the birth i want. (BTW i am having twins just in case anyone reading didn't know).

Has anyone had to have a similar talk with a consultant midwife? Does anyone have any advice that you could give me? I have had some great feedback from lovely people in a post i wrote a few weeks ago regarding c-sections, but i just feel so scared right now i might actually vomit, i'll de devastated if she isn't willing to listen to my concerns...

**UPDATE**

First of all, thanks to EVERY PERSON on here for you support and kind words, i can't tell you how much i appreciate it, you really helped me to focus on what was important and go in strong enough to put my point across in a calm manner.

I just got back from my appointment and the consultant midwife was very understanding and really listened to everything I had to say. I did break down crying a couple of times, but I just kept talking, and managed to calm myself down. She told me that it was completely my decision and that I won't be forced into doing anything. She said that she could see that i'd done a lot of reading and knew probably more than I should do!

So at the end of all that she has given me a date with the doctor to book in my c-section! She has written everything in my notes about the c-section and that we have discussed all pros and cons for the doctors.

I'll be booking in my c-section on the 22nd November for the week after, so my section will be between 29th Nov - 5th Dec.

I am so happy that I honestly don't know what to do with myself. I can't begin to express how well I am now going to sleep and how I just feel like I can breathe and enjoy my pregnancy.

Thank you all again for keeping me remotely sane when I really thought my head was going to explode! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I know it sounds lame, but could you make some notes. Just to get straight in your head what you want to say to her without getting upset?

If she doesn't listen to you, ask to see someone else! SURELY a c-sec is an actual 'option' for twin births rather than it's only done if there's a problem with single babies?

Try not to worry.

xxx

Not been in this position, but best of luck hon. It can be hard talking to professionals as always seems like they are in the position of power, but just remember, they are just the same as us, and they should listen to your concerns and your choices. Surely you should be able to choose the preferred method of delivery for your two little bundles. Best of luck xxx
Is your Hubs going with you, as sometimes it helps to have someone else there who will back you up?

We thought we'd have a fight on our hands to get an electve with this one but actually didn't have much trouble at all.

I think you just need to go in there 100% confident with your reasons for wanting a section and tell them. Be prepared for the consultant mw to try and counter each of your reasons - I just listened politely then when she'd finished told her I appreciated all she had said but hubby and I had spent a long time talking through our options and felt this was the best option for us.

Our reasons were mainly pyschological after our daughter's birth - strictly speaking there is no medical reason for me to have another section. Just stand firm, be clear on your wishes and I'm sure all will be fine.

Good luck honey

I had a talk with my midwife about a section - and no I am not justifying or explaining my reasons to anyone on this board whatsoever (I'm sick of the militant shit that gets thrown around on here about sections).

I thought I'd be in for a fight, but I'm not. She listened to me and said 'ok, entirely up to you, we'll get it booked'. And that was that.

If it helps you to think about things then the NICE guidlines on sections is a really comprehensive read and can help to put things in perspective. Its a 2 second job to find it on google.

x

At the end of the day it's your body and your choice. so surely you get to make the call if you want a c-section. the fact that you are having twins as well, i'm sure they will definately say yes to the section. best of luck.

Nutshake, good luck firstly!

Not to put a dampener on things, but I've spent all weekend being bloody devastated. I've spent since week 12 expecting a c-section as I was offered one provisionally. I went to my appointment on Thursday to get the date & ended seeing a different consultant who had me in tears all night, as she just patronised me & has taken away the option because she doesn't agree with what the original consultant suggested.

I'm having a right panic at the moment as I don't feel prepared to be giving birth because my head's been in c-section mode right the way through. I'm worried sick because I've not been to any ante-natal classes & haven't a clue on anything about giving birth in the usual way. I now have to prepare for a massive fight in order to get my section & I'm bloody p*ssed off about it. I have almost been wishing my physical state gets worse in order to spite them.

It all seems to depend on who you see - some are sympathetic and some are not. The amount of stress this has given me in the last 3 days is unreal, so I'm gutted for you that you've had months of this. I really hope they take you and your concerns seriously and see that you're requesting this for the benefit of your twins.

xxxxxxxxxxx

I spoke to my mw about sections, slightly diff as I have had 2, but the cosultant was pushing for me to try a natural.
I would go in strong, listen to them but then say politely, "no I have considered all my options, done a lot of reseach and would still like a section for my twins. Thank you for your advice though"
With twins I am sure its your option and not theirs.
Good luck today, will be thinking of you
