early labour contractions stopped??

hi all this is the first time i have written on here. I am now 37+3 weeks and this is my 3rd baby. My other 2 children were born at 34 and 32 weeks so we are thrilled to have a "full term" baby on the way. Saturday lunchtime i started getting period type pains and by the evening i was having quite strong contractions ( a feeling that you remember as soon as they start lol) We went up to our local hospital where the midwife examined my stomach. Whilst doing this i had a contraction which she felt and said that i was definately contracting. She then done an internal and my cervix was still long and thick so off we come home to let nature do it stuff. My contractions continued very regularly yesterday however they did not appear to become any stronger but were increasing in length ( despite me trying every trick in the book lol). After a restless night they now appear to have stopped. My lower back does feel like i have an elephant constantly tap dancing on it but other then that nothing. Feeling very frustrated and disheartened now. Has anyone else had this and how long did their contractions stop for before they then went on to have their little one. Thanks for reading

I'm thinking its possibly false labour, and maybe your baby was engaging itself ready for the real deal?
Either that or its your body getting prepared, so possibly early labour?

Good luck! Congrats on the full term baby too, you must be thrilled
