Braxton hicks and false labour

Am i right in thinking they are different things?

With both my pregnancys i started contracting and went straight into labour with no warning signs what so ever.

Yesterday afternoon and all of last night i had terrible backache and period pains and thought something might be starting, went to bed and woke up this morning as though it hadnt happened

It definately wasnt braxton hicks so i'm just really confused. I've been getting a feeling that i'm not going to last much longer but i also think that feeling is probably wrong so i dont get my hopes up. Midwife said last week she doesnt think i will last much longer either. Seeing her later for a sweep because of bad spd so fingers crossed

Im not sure if they are different, I had a bit of a scare last night and ended up in the hospital to be checked over, as I am carrying too much water they think I may give birth early. Its so hard to tell whats real and whats not!!
