I had a growth scan on Tuesday as I have a low BMI, everything measured well for my dates except the femur lengths, which were around 2 weeks less than they should be, now I'm worrying that something is wrong. I stupidly googled it yesterday & wished I hadn't as it said it could mean downs syndrome, i've had all the tests for that & came back low risk so i'm praying to god it's not that. Has anyone else had this & everything turned out ok? I saw my consultant after the scan & she said she wasn't worried as it's still in the normal range, just at the bottom end of the scale, & that i'll have another scan at 34 weeks & see if they have grown anymore.I can't help but worry though.
Don't panic, my little dude had a femur length measuring about 10 days behind what it should at my 34 week scan (I was measuring small by about 3 weeks), but the sonographer didn't seem too worried. Femur length measurements can be as much as 3 or 4 weeks out past 30 weeks of pregnancy, mainly because baby has got a bit big to measure accurately by this stage, and won't always be sitting with his legs in the right place to get an accurate measurement.
As babies legs are still in the normal range, it could also just be a family thing. My mum has got short legs too, and I'm tall with a long body!
I'm more worried that his head was a week ahead!! LOL
This site is really helpful if you've got the exact measurements to hand, it's got lots of calculators and graphs to show what's in the normal range. 2 weeks behind isn't anything too worrying at all
I'm only 5ft 5, so not tall. Me & the father don't come from tall families either, so im trying to use that to reassure myself. Thanks ginger1, my little ones head is measuring a week bigger too,OUCH.lol.x
Hi, I started a thread about this back in second tri months ago! My baby's femur was right at the lower end of the scale in comparison to all his other measurements. I like you got really paranoid, but no-one seemed worried about it. They also said it could just be that myself and his dad are fairly short (I am 5'7 his dad 5'9)
I had more scans at 29/33/36 weeks and his femur had grown and was bang on average at the 50th centile.
When Evan was born at 38 weeks he was a huge 21.5 inches which is in the 92nd centile.
Thanks ladies. I also think they have my dates wrong, I think i'm about 5 days less than the scan made me as i'm sure when I ovulated the month I conceived because I was temping, used opks & had my progesterone bloods done.
