hi ladies, i'm almost 31 weeks and the past 2 appointments baby has been measuring on the small side. i've gotta go for a growth scan next thursday. i'm so worried somethings wrong. anyone else had the same??? is there anything i can do to help baby? obviously we dont know whats wrong if there is something wrong but i just keep feeling like its my fault. x
Try not to worry too much, might sound silly but those measurements are so inaccurate, i have always measured 3 wks behind and when the measurement didnt change between 36wks and 38wks they sent me for a scan for 'static growth' but it turned out he actually measured slightly above average from the scan and was perfect. Everyone carries differently, theres no definate measurements you should be but obviously they have to check these things just in case, but alot of the time they get people worried for no reason
It happened to me ,at 28 weeks FH was 28 cms at 31 wks it was 29 cms and at 33wks it was 29 cms - midwife was a little concerned because the measurement had dropped off so sent us for a scan - I was terrified
Baby was FINE - measured a smigeon above the 50% percentile so basically absolutely spot on
And NO - THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT!!!! - Repeat after me!
All you can do is be sensible and eat and drink sensibly and try not to worry too much - I know that is really really hard but do try because as jstarr said (and my mw too) these measurements are not very accurate and are based on averages so many many of us measure too small or too big via FH and are perfectly fine when scanned.
Look at the scan as another opportunity to see you LO - We got the sex confirmed at ours, got to see her again AND got the reassurance that her size was fine - and they checked her heart, bladder etc again. And we found out she had lots of hair already!!
thank you sooo much. thats really helped i'm sure she's ok. at 28 weeks she was measuring 26cm and then today was measuring 27cm. i know sometimes the growth varies and sometimes my bump looks bigger than other times too depending on what position baby is in. just really made me worry.
i'm sure she's fine plus will be lovely to see her again and to re-confirm she is actually a she!!! i'm dreading finding out she's actually a boy coz we've bought all pink lol x
Im 41 wks and measure 37.. but he's around 7lb and healthy so thats good enough for me It was lovely to get another scan it seems such a big gap from 20 wks to birth and we got the sex confirmed too cos we have all boy things and i kept thinking what if he comes out a girl lol. Just look forward to seeing your LO and at 31 wks you should see things really clearly before she completely runs out of room
thank you yeah i am looking forward to seeing her, although i know i'll be nervous. i do think she's ok though and think i'd have a feeling if something was wrong. just hope hubbi can come to the scan i dont wanna go alone. i cant even speak to him atm coz he's on exercise (he's in the army) until friday and i hope they're not out next week so he can come.
think i'm gonna try to take it easy til then though just in case. x
Try not to worry am going through exactly the same, bump measured small and was sent for a scan last wednesday, baby was checked & measured. Although all healthy baby's just on the small size, and am now on weekly scans to monitor baby. I have had the second scan today and they have checked the placenta and fluid (as they will only measure baby every fortnight). As long as baby is healthy and still gaining in size then there is no cause for concern. They will keep me on weekly checks until i get to about 35 weeks and then may assign me a consultant all depending on the growth pattern. If the growth pattern slows further then they may suggest delivery sooner, if all carrys on the same i will not be left to go past my due date & will be taken in to start me off between 39 & 40 weeks.
Dont go blaming yourself, it is nothing ou have done wrong. I know excatly how you feel as i was feeling the same last week. It is only he last few days i have come to realise that this way baby is getting closely monitored, I get the added benefit of seeing baby on a weekly basis... something i never expected after my 20 week scan.
Take care, and am sure all will be fine.
Try not to worry hun! I measured at least 3 weeks behind my entire pregnancy and Carmen was being measured at <10th percentile, so they kept a close watch on us but everything was absolutely fine. She was born right on her due date at a petite 6 lbs, but perfectly healthy. I felt awful for a long time- especially since, after a false alarm about the placenta, they almost took her out between 32-33 weeks- that it was somehow my fault she was small; I thought I hadn't eaten enough since I only gained 14 lbs. total and maybe she hadn't gotten enough nutrients, but docs assured me that wasn't the case and she's just meant to be a petite little girl. Good luck hun!
I know the feeling i had IGUR baby 10 years ago. Hannah was delivered at 32 weeks but was gestational size of a 28 week baby. She was perfect but small and is a healthy 10 year old. I am now pregnant after having an ovarian shutdown.29 weeks today. I am measuring fine however my growth scan show he is on the 10 Centile so they are keeping a close I on him. i am having weekly MW appointments for BP. Have growth scans every 4 weeks might change after next appointment to 2 weeks. I am not a small built lady size 14-16 pre pregnancy. I also put 5 1/2 stone on with Hannah. So dont beat yourself up. It is nothing you have done. Some women are going to have small babies.
thank you so much. its reasurring to know i'm not the only one. you've really helped ease my mind. i'm sure bubs is fine and if there is anything wrong she'll be in good hands and theres so much they can do these days. just wish i had hubbi home so i can talk to him. ah well only a couple of days to go.
