Here's some info: http://www.amazingpregnancy.com/preg...icles/172.html
Effacement is measured in percent. When your cervix is normal, it is considered to be 0% effaced. When you're 50% effaced, your cervix is half its original thickness. When your cervix is 100% effaced it is completely thinned out and you are ready for vaginal delivery.

From the sounds of it you could go any day. Our cervix while were pregnant is basically long and closed....as labor nears it shortens (effaces) and opens (dialates) so your on your way. They also measure what station your at 1-5 (basically how far down the head is) but that can change really fast. Good Luck, sounds like you may have your LO very soon

I've been 4cm dilated and fully efaced for 2 weeks now and they keep saying you'll go any day...driving me crazy!

Edit- and i've had two sweeps...one today had really bad cramping since so hoping its the start of something or i'll be induced on tuesday.

midwife told me at my sweep that if your niggles after your sweep stop dont worry because labour could still start. she said it takes a while for the hormones to build up enough for actual labour
