taking bottles to the hospital

Hi
I am just starting to think about putting my hospital bag and wondered if i need to think about taking bottles?

I have every intention of trying to breastfeed, but if this doesnt work out do i need to take my own bottles? and how do i sterilise them etc?

Thanks in advance..

Becky

At my hospital they provide you with little prefilled bottles of formula. They sent me home with a whole bunch too! I'm in the US though, not sure where you are and what's common....

I think they do provide hun if need be... I was told a story the other day that they may tell you they dont as they dont want you to give up on breast feeding too early, but if they can really see you cant breastfeed then they provide you with some.

You need to be careful about taking your own bottles with sterilisation as you said... I know from reading my steriliser instructions that the bottles only stay sterile for 24 hours and this is if you dont open the steriliser so dont know what you would do... but then people who plan to formula feed must do something??

I plan on breastfeeding and have bottles for when I express, but I wont be buying any formula as I worry if i struggle with breastfeeding then I would give up too easily if there was fomula right there.... Usually though they say to give breastfeeding a good go before going for formula (24 hours seems to be in my head but this seems pretty extreme??) so there would be plenty of time for your partner to go and grab some if the worst came to the worst.

You can buy pre-made,sterilized bottles of milk in the shops, the same stuff they would give you in hospital. Probably better to check with your hospital but we bought some of the supermarket ones but were given some in hospital
