I have been prescribed iron tablets and have noticed that after about 3 days of taking 2 a day I start to feel really sick all day. After I had been on them about a week I started being sick in a morning and then feeling sick for the rest of the day.
Do they have a similar effect on any of you ladies and if so what do you do about it? (Do you continue to take them or have you found something else that is as effective?)
God yes I was ill on mine for about a week! Ive been taking them 3weeks now & still feel abit faint of a morning but I bought some spatone apple sachets from boots. They are just a little liquid drink with vitamin c which is meant to help absorb the iron & I feel much better on them, midwife recommends them. They are on 3 for 2 at the moment so 84 sachets for £20 normally £10 a box although you can get the original ones for £7.49 which you mix with orange juice yourself. I take one of the iron tablets the doc gave me now & again but they are rotten & play havoc with your digestion, as if I wasnt consipated enough!!
I'm glad to hear it's not just me that is struggling with the iron tablets! I started thinking maybe my morning sickness was back so late on. I will get some of the spa tone things from boots today and see how I get on with them.
Thanks for the recommendation
Berniep - I mentioned it to my midwife and she said to just try 1 tablet a day which did help but still made me feel "blurgh" Definately mention your sickly feeling to your midwife as she may have some advise and alternatives for you to try.
Don't know if these are only available in the US, but my midwife is having me take "Slow-FE," which are slow-release tablets. They seem to help me feel less ill, since they release the iron slowly instead of it all hitting your system at once. If they don't have that particular brand, maybe see if there's something similar?
