Breathing in utero?

Does anyone know when our babies begin to breathe (or practice breathing) in utero?

Just curious....

I noticed it a few weeks ago, I put my hand on where she was laying and my hand went up and down in a breathing motion. Not like hiccups or anything and different than my hb.
It's so amazing!

I'm 27 wks and my ticker has mentioned the practicing of that. To be honest I greally didn't think of that since their airway is blocked. How can you tell (by feeling) that they're doing that?

I have scan every week and this is something they check for in my during it...they started watching for it at 25 weeks...each week they watch for him to do it a little longer. It stated out at 10 seconds and now its for 1 min. Its really neat and I was able to actually start feeling it a few weeks ago.

I always feel my lo when I am completely relaxed and laying down. I have my hand down low on my bump and its not the bump bump of the hiccups its just a gentle regular movement...kinda hard to explain. But totally amazing.

We could clearly see Ben practicing breathing at my last u/s at 31 wks. They start much sooner, I'd assume around the time they are viable!

I only noticed mine in the past two weeks but she has been hiccuping a lot longer which is also an indication of practicing to breathe. She spends a lot of time with her back round the side so I only see it when she's more round the front.
