I'm new to 3rd trimester and already have a question that's TMI. I've been having some really cloudy urine for quite some time. Sometimes it's worse than others, like right now, where it's very obviously cloudy. I've been checked for UTIs and nothing (though the last test was a month or so ago). Since I'm prone to UTIs in my pre-pregnancy life, I have a lot of self tests at home, which look for bacteria and for white blood cells. So today when I first got up, I gave my hoohaa a good wash (to remove any vaginal white blood cell contamination), and then took one of these self tests. There wasn't a trace of bacteria but a load of white blood cells. I've been googling and the only sources of white blood cells other than vaginal excretions are usually UTIs and kidney infections, but I just don't think I have one of those. I have a midwife appointment early next week so I'll probably wait till then to tell her, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this sort of experience or has heard of any other reasons for white blood cells in urine. My only other thought is that I have inflammation without an infection...
from the start of my pregnancy i think i have a UTI but whenever i check i always have leukocytes and the gp and midwives ALWAYS give me an antibiotic, so far iv taked 5 cycles of diff antibiotics and nothing seems to cure it!! it just cures the symptoms i have...frequently going to the bathroom and cramps in lower abdomen! il be interested to know what your GP thinks!
I had 34 week appt this morning and had white blood cells. I had them last time as well and the Dr sent the sample off but it came back saying 'mixed growth' which apparently is quite meaningless. She said during pregnancy we are more likely to have white blood cells in our urine and often there is nothing wrong. She has given me another pot to do another sample and drop back in to the Dr for analysis as she wants to make sure my sample is midstream. Apparently if you use the urine from the beginining of the flow its more likely to show white blood cells.
All that said, if the tests don't show any infections and your Dr isn't worried (mine isn't) then I wouldn't worry - it's just one of those weird pregnancy things! x
oh that is a relief. I made an appointment to go and have the urine tested but I'll hold off on any antibiotics till the cultures come back, just in case. I do think it's probably nothing to worry about, but it's hard not to worry sometimes.
l had this a few weeks ago and was told to drink about 3 litres to flush my system out and include barley water with it or cranberry juice, l did so for a week then done a repeat mid stream sample and that came back okay
hope all goes well with you
